Favorite Spoon Etc.

I realized recently that I'm in love with a spoon.

Not "spooning", but love for a spoon I received from my mom when she was in her "Swedish Death Cleaning" phase(s).

It was a constant throughout my childhood.

Always in the canned green beans.

Tonight I opened some canned green beans and searched through my many slotted spoons to find my sweetheart.

It's the Oneida Ltd. Stainless Slotted spoon in the Berkley Square pattern from, I'm guessing, early 1970's.

If the house is on fire, I would rescue this spoon!

Do you have a sentimental/favorite utensil you'd be heartbroken to lose?

I have a "thing" for ORNATE old flatware teaspoons. I haunt thrift stores and dig thru boxes of the junk for just the "perfect one"...

I have two paring knives and one dinner knife that my grandfather made over 100 years ago, There were more dinner knives when I was growing up, not sure what happened to them. Probably in the garbage by mistake. I have several other paring knives but I only use the ones he made. I do use other dinner knives, because I don't want to keep washing that one mutiple times each day . LOL Brings back many happy memories of my Pap Pap.

My most very favorite person in the world (my mom would understand) was a great aunt who loved to bake.

Her *mixing spoon* was worn away to about half it's original shape from beating against the side of her big old striped mixing bowl.

How I wished I had that bowl and the spoon!

ETA: And my beloved great aunt for just one more day!

during my Foxfire phase in the '70s ( which I never completely grew out of) I developed a love for handmade wooden objects, including spoons. I have about two dozen that I started buying during that time. I still find a handmade spoon hard to resist but I haven't bought one for myself in years. I do have 2 or 3 very favorite ones that I would grab in an emergency.

I have that set somewhere in my china hutch. It hasn't been used in decades. Along with the china that I wish I could get rid of.

I love slotted serving spoons. I love ice tea spoons. My favorite utensil type thing is a knife I bought from the air force exchange on base. It must of been in 1975.

I couldn't find that video but I found a really good one I'd never seen before-
Chris Rodrigues and the Spoon Lady Take on Classic Blues. On Yoiutube. (They have other songs too).
So good. Now that is playing the spoons. I wish I could play like that!

Strange this post popped up today ! While I was emptying my nightstand last week, I went through all the cards with written notes that I had saved for many reasons. Some I don't remember who the signed was.

Then I opened a plastic bag tucked way in the back, outside the box. It was from my mother and evidently was typical back in the 1940's after the birth of the first child. It contained my christening dress which was made from her wedding gown and my first tiny teaspoon.

Somehow I just can't recycle these two items....but I won't rush to save them if the house was on fire: too many other things !

Living at home, I always ate with a specific fork that was totally different from the rest of the forks in the drawer. No one else liked that fork because it is heavier than most. There was also a heavy serving spoon in the drawer that would always be my first choice for the food bowls on the table. Both pieces came home with me last year when I cleared out my parents house.

@timeless I love my slotted spoons! I have one similar to your spoon, but not quite the same. In my family we had a wooden spoon called "The Peacekeeper." It is rarely used anymore, just for hearth cooking. In the past, it was used for "keeping the peace" among the children. (If you know what I mean.)

I have my Mom's wooden spoon..There is always a wooden spoon in a Italian kitchen

That spoon has been used many times for many things..If Grandma raised her wooden spoon and she wasn't cooking....We all ran in different directions..

That's beautiful! I have a favorite cereal bowl and spoon. The bowl is painted with a gorgeous mermaid on it and the spoon - I can't remember where I got it - very ornate!
