We started married life with Oneida Paul Revere and white Corning Ware dishes! Compared to flatware today, the Paul Revere looks so small! But I still love it--the simplicity of it and the weight and feel of the really old pieces!

I thought it might be fun to hear what others had for their first sets!

It is stainless.

The pattern has a bird and flowers on every piece. Loved, loved, loved it then and still love it now.

My mom and my aunt were identical twins. They didn't talk to each other about their wedding gift for us. So we got two complete sets of almost the same pattern!

I used my parents' gift as our everyday set and I still do. I use my aunt and uncle's gift for special occasions.

Both are classic, with plain lines. My aunt's choice was a tad more tavern looking.

I think it was called Early KMart. 😉

Since then, I bought a service for 12 of Oneida Astragal silverplate just after Oneida closed their plant in NY. Early 2000's? Bought all the serving pieces too and I've used them all.

I would love to get real sterling flatware for special days as the Oneida is showing it's age.

Don't remember the name of the pattern but I still use it. BUT several years after we got the set, we were visiting my brother. And they just received the same exact pattern from his Mother-in-law. The wife's brother just graduated from law school and brought all his stuff from living at school, home. His Mom didn't need anymore silverware so her daughter took the set. But her daughter didn't need it either.

Here we come and it was the same pattern as what we had. So we figured why not.

SO I figured I was set for life with everyday silverware. Not to be. I counted the knives the other day. I have ONE knife from that pattern Here I had 2 sets of the same pattern (not sure if it was a set of 8 or 12) and I now have only 1 knife!?!?!?!?

Thank goodness I was a frequent visitor to Lenox warehouse sales through the years.

Early 2000's? Bought all the serving pieces too and I've used them all.

I would love to get real sterling flatware for special days as the Oneida is showing it's age.

@Snowpuppy The older USA made Oneida deserves a medal for it's "metal!" That stuff faces up to eating, planting, dishwashing, etc. Everything but the garbage disposal!

How about doing a modern trend of miss-match for a few place settings of sterling? If you start looking as a hobby and fun, there are still some good buys out there, and fun tohave mismatched sets or random dessert spoons for instance!

And a little investment more than some "hobby" activities as well! Never bad to have some solid assets!
