My store had tons. Some were 7.49 to 11.99 a dozen. I did get an Eggsland Best 18 pack. 6.29, the cheapest. Limit of 1. There were some six packs no name, for 4.29.

I picked up a doz large eggs at my local grocers (Lucerne brand) yesterday on the 11th for $6.99 with the expiration date on the carton Feb 18th.

At my Publix, the only eggs in the case were packs of Publix brand large 18 eggs for $8.69. Not a bad price, considering the situation. Will my life change if I don't have eggs or chicken? Nope.

Sadly, two bald eagle chicks on the eagle cam in my town recently died due to bird flu and a bald eagle was found in my neighbors yard unable to fly. Sheriff's deputies captured it and took it to the wildlife hospital and I suspect it also had bird flu. What's disturbing is that bird flu is infecting other mammals, not just birds.

I bought a dozen Egglands Best eggs for $3.99 at the Walmart near me on Monday. They were cheaper than generic and Walmart brands.

@Biftu - the point is that the prices are astronomical..... Eggs were once a very affordable healthy protein option for many families. Not so much anymore......

@CalminHeart you were lucky! As soon as I read your post, I went online to Walmart to see what they had, and the Eggland eggs are sold out. The cheapest eggs (even per egg) are the dozen large white WM generic eggs at $5.50 a dozen as of today's date.

@Biftu maybe not critical, but I do a lot of baking, which requires eggs, and do eat one egg a day for lunch as a low-calorie protein option.

My local BJ's hasn't had ANY eggs for the past 3 weeks. I got a carton of 18 extra large Harris Teeter eggs yesterday on sale for $7.99. It was the last one and I found 3 were cracked/broken when I got home. They had a decent selection of large eggs with a sale price around $4.99. I don't usually use a lot of eggs on a regular basis, but I wanted to do some baking and needed them for that.

Eggs have increased/decreased many times in my life. Hopefully, these prices won't last much longer.

It's claimed because of the bird flu and this has happened before.

Hopefully, the price will decrease soon. (As well as a lot of other things).

Mine either. But if you bake a lot, egg prices and shortages could be a problem. Are Egg Beaters a good substitute or has their price skyrocketed too?

@wifey2qt I get the point but there are other ways to get protein without the cholesterol contained in eggs.

I am enjoying the comments about eggs. So, here is another one. At walmkt. here in Winston Salem NC, I bought 6 eggs for $3.14. The highest I have seen. Yesterday I went to Chic fil la and bought 2 sausage and egg biscuits for $4+ dollars each. My enthusiasm for eating eggs seems to increase the more the prices go up. It is like someone telling me not to eat something and I want it more than usual.

Here is the thing for me. Yes they have gone up but if I need or want eggs then I will purchase them but I am not going to waste them either. There are lots of things I can save money on that I don't need.

I do not eat out and do my own cooking most of the time so I don't feel like I am wasting my money on eggs if I need them or other groceries. A person has to eat.

I just find it crazy the prices on items at the store. I just stick with the sales as much as possible.

What bothers me on the prices is many families are having a hard time making ends meet and I can understand that completely. Everything is going up.

I went to Aldi early this morning and paid $4.69 for a doz. cage free large brown eggs. Good price I thought but the eggs are more like medium size. I bought them anyway.

I don't use a lot of eggs but I need them on occasion. The higher price won't stop me from buying them. I notice ground coffee prices are rising.
