It really does make good rice. I have Zojiushi rice cookes that makes excellent rice for comparison. I got this because I had coupons and such and was curious about how it works on the low carb. I thought since more of the starch is being drained off, the rice should be very good, and it it. I used fresh Lundberg Organic Long White Rice for one batch, and made another batch of Lundgerg Organic Brown Rice.

We always rinse rice well, but even after rinsing yes, it did shoot the starchy rice water up and out in the top--a lot more for the white than the brown. In a way it works more like an old Charleston rice steamer (stovetop--and a relic from the 1950's I guess) we have, and they are known for good rice.

So, the organic brown rice and the white rice came out great, less starchy and sticky, grains nice and seperate. It doesn't make a lot of rice that way, but it is very good.

On the other hand, it doesn't have settings for basmati or jasmine rice which we mostly use, or Quinoa, steel cut oats, gaba brown, sweet, sushi and others that the Zojirushis have. But the price was good and we will use it for small batches of plain or brown rice.

Just the fact that it does remove a lot of sticky starch would make the rice taste better in my opinion. It's nice that it lowers the carb content too and I gave it a thought about getting one. However I just don't have the counter or cabinet space for another small appliance.

Enjoy yours!

i was thinking of purchasing it, but we use a lot of basmati rice (and i soak that and rinse it numerous times) and we like to have a crunchy bottom, which this cooker does not do. we love the crunchy bottom that are an essential for persian tahdig and paella.
