I Don't Know if I will Ever Cook Another Chicken

Sam's rotisserie chickens are so cheap, so good, so easy to use and then you make broth from the bones. Why cook chicken?

I just can't find a reason now. Maybe some breasts for chicken and rice, but really. Why would I? Are you cooking whole chickens now? I am lazy. I'll admit it.

I still do sometimes, there is always a line waiting for them at my Sams club. We are retired but we go on Saturday since we help with my grandson during the week.

Also after grocery shopping we get a big order of Panda express and eat it saturday and sunday. Its not my favorite but my husband likes it and it keeps me out of the kitchen. Next time there isn't a line I will have to get one, your right they are very good and better than Costco's.

@Sooner Oh man you got that right! I quit cooking a whole chicken years ago! I got a big family and we typically grab 3 when I need them for dinner. I make mashed potatoes and a vegetable and it's delicious. I have stood in line for them but don't mind. Well worth it.

I live in NYC and don't have a Sam's; just supermarket rotisserie chickens and they are very expensive! A raw chicken is easily a third of the price of a cooked one. I only indulge in one on the hottest summer days when I can't even look at the stove. I think there are a lot of advantages to living in a city but cheap food prices are not one of them.

@Sooner i cant buy a raw whole chicken for the same size and price of a Sam's Club rotiserre chicken. Im with you, why cook one? Im lucky to have a Sams nearby. Rotiserre Chickens at Publix are $4 more and 1/3 smaller.

Sam's Club chickens are the best. Two dinners and a sandwich for each of us from 1 chicken.

I was getting Costco'c Rotessere chicken until we got sick and went to whole fresh chicken. I roasted using Lydia's B receipe with Lemons and Rosemary. I last me about a week, although, i freeze some and then make chicken soup. I share it with the dog for a few of her meals. She also got sick on Costco's roasted chicken. Yes, it takes time, but so much better and healthier. Of course, I don't work on the outside, so I have more time.

I also buy chicken thighs and use for soup when they are on sale and the whole chicken is not. To each their own. Enjoy, which ever one pleases you. I like the thighs for soup. Maybe because the breast are too dry even in soup.

I still roast whole chickens.

I love the Costco rotisserie chickens, but theirs, and others stores, have many ingredients and a lot of sodium. They are processed.

I only get one a couple of times per year.

I don't live near a Sam's or Costco. Maybe had a rotisserie chicken 10-12 yrs ago?

I prefer to cook my own chickens. Costco and Sams's Club both sell salty chickens and their spices contain additives and preservatives.

I am not a fan of salt and never have been. My husband has been told to lower his salt intake, so prepared food is not something we do often.

The last chicken I bought from Costco in 2021 was raw inside. Pic attached. It was pretty gross and I had to recook it.

Yes, they are cheap, but not exactly healthy eating.

I had a Sam's chicken about two months ago, we ate half and tossed the rest...too salty.

meat. It is so good. I just finished the package for lunch today.

@qvcaddition We no longer buy the rotisserie chicken at Costco. The last 2 times the chicken was undercooked. There is always a full display case of the chickens when you walk by. So I think other people think the same.

I still like to roast a chicken, especially on a cold winter day and I'm not going anywhere. I love the warmth of the oven and the delicious smell in the house.

@qvcaddition I think it is far healthier not to be messing with a raw whole chicken in my kitchen even though I amthe scrubbing and sanitizing queen.

To me that is a big advantage. And these are larger and cheaper and better than anything I could do with a raw one. And they are never dry.

But yes, to each their own.

The Sam's near me also sells a pack of 5 grilled chicken breasts with Italian seasoning. They are already cooked and they are in the refrigerated section near the rotisserie chickens. I love them and buy them often.

I actually bought a Sam's Club rotisserie chicken this afternoon! I got there just as a fresh batch was being set out and they were the biggest ones I've ever seen, even in comparison to the always-large SC offerings. I got a full extra cup of diced white meat when I broke it down and the whole chicken was extremely juicy and flavorful. I can't believe I only discovered the fantastic phenomenon of Sam's chickens about two years ago—that's a lot of years of wasted time watching for sales and making boring poached or slow cooker chicken. I've said it before and I'll say it again: It's the best $5 I ever spend on food.

I am surprised some have never cooked a whole chicken. I've cooked hundreds and cut up more of then than I've cooked whole. I could that when I was 12.

So I'm delighted not to have to have a raw chicken in the sink and clean and clean and disinfect afterward! Whew!
