Egg Prices!

What the heck happened to the price of eggs? Tjey have gotten so expensive here in So. Cal. Even Aldi which used to be very affordable is now $3.48 a dozen. Are prices high where you are?

I've been paying in that price range for the last year at my local WV IGA store; for large or jumbo eggs.

I just checked my local store in MD. $2.99-$7.99 depending on whether you want "regular" or organic cage free.

The generic brand where I shop is $3.50 for a dozen large. At least twice as much for name brands, cage free, veg fed, etc.

I'm fortunate to have five major grocery stores in my area. So eggs are usually on sale around here. I pay between $1.99 for a dozen eggs and $2.77 for the eighteen count of large eggs.

At this time of year I am buying large, farm fresh brown eggs from a small farm just up the road: $3.50/dozen.

Will reluctantly return to buying eggs at Aldi in a few months.

Multiple outbreaks of avian influenza or bird flu causing large flocks having to be euthanized. Chicken prices are likely to go up too.

I always have hard boiled eggs in the refrigerator because DH likes them. He has them for a snack once in a while.

I just got a notice yesterday about our local 4H fair. The kids specializing in poultry will be there to answer questions, but there will be no poultry. This avian flu is pretty bad.

I go to my local farm to buy my eggs. You can see the chickens walking around out in the pasture. It's organic and I like to support local farms.

The yolks are a bright orange color and it nice to know that they are free from a lot of nasty chemicals and the chickens aren't confined to tight spaces where they can't roam.

This all makes eggs more expensive than super market eggs from large conventional farms. I've been paying $7.50 a dozen.

Our family of 4 eats a lot of eggs. For last 6 months we've been buying the 5 doz carton for about $13. We bought the plastic cartons that hold 18 eggs and transfer eggs into those.

I only buy Eggland's Best (EB) extra large. Walmart's

smell funny when scrambled . Don't like their whole milk either. Great Value brand-----Yuck.

I have a local friend who gives me eggs (chicken and/or duck). When we visit my niece's family I get fresh eggs from them too. In fact, tomorrow we're going out there and stay a few days. DH and I will collect eggs each day. They're so good. When I buy eggs, I try to get pasture raised from Aldi. The last time I bought them they were $4.69, which I don't mind paying. That's a better price than Vital Farms.

PLANT based beef, chicken, even fish products are available...so how long will it be until we have faux eggs???

I'm vegan no longer eat eggs however want to let you know labels matter cage free means nothing please research for yourself.

Instead pasture raised means exactly that outside fresh air.

I only ate organic pasture raised eggs worth every penny.

Even if eggs are $12/dozen that makes each egg $1.00. Still an excellent source of protein.
