COSTCO RECALL OF KIRKLAND BUTTER

If you shop at Costco, Top Class Actions dot com indicated that 79,000 pounds of butter is being recalled .... NOT that it is contaminated, but that milk allergen information is missing.

Smarty pants question:

Do people REALLY need to be told that butter comes from milk?

Since an iron has to carry a hot label I would say yes, butter needs a milk warning.

This issue is such a waste of good food that could be used by people who are hungry and struggling.

Common sense no longer is the norm. I would just slap a sticker on the box that says the contents contain milk.

I wish I could get my hands on some of that recalled butter before it is destroyed. I could use some for Christmas baking.

It makes me sick to see food recalled for label information missing. I do hope it is recalled, relabeled and donated, but I doubt it.

Iron HOT? Really? Unbelievable what the government thinks it has to tell us these days. None of us would be alive if we were in need of most "needed" information today.

I especially liked the warning in the user manual for the two-slice toaster I bought recently : Electrical hazard!! Not to be used when immersed in water! Do not use in bathtub or pool!

So, who would be putting their bread or an English muffin in the toaster while they're in the bathtub??? Who really needs that kind of warning?

In the cases of possible food allergens I think the labeling is federally mandated.

When it comes to non-food consumer product labeling I believe most, if not all, are voluntary as a result of personal injury litigation and outrageous jury awards.

You always think warning labels are unnecessary, then you see people doing stupid stuff, like climbing into a tiger's cage to take a selfie, and you realize how incredibly stupid some people are.

The experts say the IQ in developed countries is falling. Well, yeah. We've made it too hard for the really stupid people to kill themselves. Now they're reproducing and making more stupid people.

You used to need to be pretty smart to survive. You had to know how to grow and raise food. How to avoid wild animals. How to safely store and prepare food. What was poisonous and what wasn't. If you messed up, you would die. Now even the dumbest people live long and reproduce.

Evolution favored those who were smarter. We've now made a world that's so safe, even the dumbest morons live long lives and pass on their stupidity. We've largely removed intelligence as a favorable evolutionary trait.

The obsession with cell phones, TicToc, Instagram, FaceBook, etc., no interest in reading or curiosity to expand horizons to learn, foolish reality shows on TV, schools not teaching so many basic things that were once taught, (I worked in public schools for thirty two years), parents not teaching manners and civil behavior, are all part of what I believe is the dumbing down of America.

The one thing I didn't see mentioned is if the "recalled" butter had to be destroyed ... or just not available to the general public.

Hopefully, it could be deemed "safe" and sold to a large baking company .... or something like that.

If anyone knows anything about this, please share.

I still find it odd that Costco screwed up. If previous packaging had the allergen information, just WHO authorized removing it? If you sell food products, you follow the regulations. Not exactly rocket science.

It's all about labeling. My favorite 5-grain cereal was recalled almost a year ago, and still hasn't returned to shelves. The reason was because it didn't have the wheat allergen label. This cereal has only five ingredients, one of which is wheat, and that is listed on the ingredient label with the other four grains. And how does the wheat allergen label read? "Contains wheat."

Likewise, a local store was forced to recall prepared salads this summer because they lacked the egg allergen label, despite the fact that the salads included sliced eggs on top and visible through the clear lid.

Spend some time working or volunteering in a school. I volunteered for seven years. Boy, did I get an education. Things are so different.

I thought some of the kids were pretty bad and then I met their parents. It's eye opening for sure.
