Time To Make Those Fruitcakes!

If you are going to make fruitcake, it's time to get them baked, wrapped and soaked in some kind of spirits to ripen for Christmas!

If not( being lazy this year? ), time to call up Collin Street Bakery (or your favorite provider) for that slice of DeLuxe Fruitcake that is Christmas in a tin!

My grandma made "Poor Mans Cake", I made it for years always made it for my mom. It's a cake made without eggs, butter or milk, I think it originated during the depression. It's a spicy raisin cake.

My mom used to make a couple of big fruitcakes every year. I was never a fan, but my dad and sister loved them.

@Sooner You reminded me. My Dad was so busy this time of year.

He would have his pecans shipped from Georgia. And start making fruit cakes plus he made caramel and made turtles. Then closer to the holidays he made pecan pies.

He was working full time but spent every evening cooking to make stuff for friends, co-workers and family.

And if the batch of caramel was a fail (sometimes if the temperature wasn't right, the caramel got brittle), we would make the sacrifice and eat it.

Lots of good smells and good eating.

I did not like Fruitcakes when I was young. But as i grew older and had some I loved it and still do. I won't make them, but will buy a BIG one only, all for me.

@Flatbush That's funny because peope used to send my dad a Collin Street Bakery fruitcake at Christmas and I'd eat some but my mom was a sweet-aholic so chocolate cakes and other desserts were better to me.

But now it's a must have even though my husband makes one probably better. But I love the tin and the cake best and it's Christmas to me now!

@drizzellla Great memories and thanks for sharing! My husband makes legendary pecan pies and apple pies and makes his own crust. And fruitcakes! He hasn't mentioned it yet about the fruitcakes, but I know why.

It is still warm enough to play golf!
