Specific Ray Rastelli TSV Filet Mignon Question

Would love to hear if you've had Ray's separate filet mignon as in the TSV.

Have had his Beef Wellington's with filet inside and that meat didn't seem like filet at all, stringy, tough and had gristle.

The meat shown today looks very tender.

I ordered his meat ONCE....it was some kind of stuff labelled "reserve".....

It was "reserved" from the year 2000 ( Y2K) in some freezer in New Jersey.

Shoe leather.

My opinion only of course......I have no idea what "reserve" even means....From what I can tell...it's a made up term. Like "clean beauty" which is also a made up term.

Does anyone?

Here's how meat is graded in the US:

"The USDA Agricultural Marketing Service recognizes 8 different beef grades, from highest quality to least: Prime, Choice, Select, Standard, Commercial, Utility, Cutter, and Canner."

Whatever it's called....it's WAAAAAYYYYY overpriced. Remember..you can't EAT the dry ice and that styrofoam container it ships in !!!!

The local grocery store sells Rastelli ground beef and hamburgers. I have tried both and did not care for the meat at all. The prices were pretty good for Rastellis. After the experience with these products, I wouldn't pay for anything sold by them on QVC.

I've had their filet mignon tips (cut filet) and I thought they were quite good. They were tender, not tough or stringy. I made them stove top and I do like mine well done and they remained tender.

Most steak houses offer filet starting at the 6oz size. Rastelli's has been shrinking their portion size, including their burgers.

While I know shipping is included in the price, some of us don't live anywhere near a Sam's or Costco.

We have both Sams and Costco nearby, their filet mignon prices are about $25/lb.

Problem is they are pre-packaged and they tend to cut each piece fairly large. The pieces aren't uniform either, sometimes cut unevenly, so it's hard to cut them down to size.

Rastelli 5 oz size works ok for me and I like the uniformity, but after my experience it doesn't seem worth it.

At $15 a steak for filet mignon with shipping included I thought was reasonable for what you get. Filet mignon is a treat here, not a weekly dinner offering for sure!

So I just checked Omaha Steaks and for 5oz size of filet, they are about the same price and you only get free shipping at certain price points.

I like the fact that Rastelli's knows where their meat comes from and I like that there are not antibiotics and steroids in their products.

I have enjoyed the meat and chicken and the burgers and the hot dogs that we have bought thru QVC and thru Rastelli site of their food.

Never have had Rastelli's. I can get it where I live along with La Freda and other top brands. The food items on QVC have been mediocre at best and I stopped ordering them a long time ago. There are better websites if you want to get something not sold in your area.

I have not had a good experience with Rastelli's. Ordered the filets on auto delivery and had to cancel it after the first order was not good. Meat had a horrible flavor. Kansas City Steaks I have never had a problem, unfortunately QVC seems to favor Rastelli's.

Shoot, I'm on pre-order prime rib for Christmas. Actually auto delivery into next year, too. I'll be so bummed if it's not good. I'll end up making a huge tray of lasagna, just in case.

They are the go-to Corporate gifts at holiday time to show how much companies appreciate (NOT) thier employees.

Possibly the WORST stuff I've ever seen called "meat".

Inedible.

I crack up when I see thier ads in magazines....right there with government gold and rare plastic jewels for 19.95 ( like on the Titanic!!!!)

Our Electric Co Op puts out a monthly magazine full of these silly ads.....

I've not ordered any steaks---but I tried those 2 oz filet pieces in packages--not sure if it was from this brand or not, but they were a joke!! Most pieces were not 2 oz and were tiny, odd shaped pieces with lots of gristle and fat. Got my $$ back. My fave steak is sirloin anyway---
