I have noticed as I get older that I'm somewhat turned off by overly sweet foods. I've always been more of a savory person, but I didn't dislike sweets. I find now that I scrape the frosting off desserts and recently I was offered a pumpkin donut ( my favorite) and it was sugared and I just didn't want it. Just give me a plain donut or a muffin and I'm good. Do any of you find certain foods changes as you get older ? Oh and no need to alert the media, LOL !

I've also been more of a savory kind of person, but I have liked sweets in the past. I prefer pies over cakes, and I also scrape the thick icing off the cakes. Costco cakes are great, but that icing is sweeeeet! This has only intensified with my age. I never eat ice cream anymore, but I love plain yogurt. Maybe it's our bodies telling us what to do. ???

I was a big time sugar addict who (in my early 20's) used to commonly eat 2 Star Cunches (A little Debbies dessert of the past) with a cup of coffee with 6 tsps of sugar for breakfast and have loved sweets all my life.

Starting about 20 years ago, I became more educated on the damage sugar causes so I started limiting it then but in the last 10 and even more in the past 5 years I don't eat added sugar for the most part because I can literally feel it's ill effects on my body (joint stiffness, brain fog, restless sleep, rashes etc) so there's no doubts anymore and I'm no longer under any (delicious as they may be) illusions that having sweets daily is ok for me because my body barks at me now.....

All this to say on the rare occasions that I do eat desserts and really sugary treats (and I still do from time to time) I can only taste the sugar and no other flavor, so it's not as enjoyable.

Sugar seems to be like a drug and once you're in the middle of the addiction it takes more and more sweetness to get the effects of it and once you get out of it for awhile then go back and partake it's all you taste...and it's just too much.

Not at all for me. I'll still go for the corner piece of a square cake since it has the most frosting on it. There are some things I find too sweet, like pecan pie, but that's been the same for many years.

I don't care for a sweet for a meal though, so I don't like all those sweet meal replacement diet bars/shakes. A meal should be savory even if you just want a snack. Then, I can have a piece of chocolate (dark only) for dessert.

Used to eat all those things as a child, teen, and young adult, but could never eat those now.

@wilma I agree with those items you mentioned. I never really liked Little Debbie or Hostess snacks as a kid...but... I used to take a pop tart to work for a quick snack...that ended when I retired. I guess our taste changes as we get older. Now all I need is an occasional mini peppermint patty or a cookie (or two) and I'm happy.

I used to love sodas, especially Cokes....I never touch them now and haven't for at least 10 years....awful!

I love sweets but nothing overly sweet...I could eat a dessert in the middle of the night.

I eat very little dairy and not a huge meat lover.
