My coffee maker died today ...

It was a messy death. I never saw anything like it ...

It would have been 14 years old next month. It was a Black & Decker and served me well all these years.

I carefully wrapped it in two recycled plastic grocery sacks and solemnly carried it down to our recycle room.

I came back up to my apartment and immediately got on Amazon and ordered an Amazon Basics coffee maker ... it will be here on Saturday.

In the meantime .... I keep an emergency jar of Chock full o'Nuts for times just like this.

That is so sad. I am useless without my morning coffee.

When mine was not working properly I had to run out immediately and buy a new one.

My coffee maker of choice is Bunn. Had them for years.

If you ever need a back up, a French Press is easy to use. My son loves his.

I feel your pain ! I've had my Keurig Coffee maker for over 15 yrs at least and if it suddenly died I would have to call 911 to get a ambulance to take me to Walmart to get another one right away !

That was so nice of you to carefully wrap it and put it to rest. You were a wonderful coffee maker Mom !

I too have a 15 year old Keurig and is still going strong! It's important to note that new Keurigs are not made as well as those older ones like we have. I've been tempted to "upgrade" but after seeing the problems my dad and sister have with having to replace their Keurigs I'm holding on to it.

@ALRATIBA So sorry. My Black and Decker died a few months ago. I did run to Walmart to get a Walmart basics. It's been fine. I know my next one certainly won't last as my previous B/D. Needed my coffee the next am.

Sorry your machine bit the dust. You need to keep a backup. I know some are out of sorts without their coffee first thing!

I don't drink coffee as such but do like espresso! I never drink it first thing, only maybe later in the day, sometimes over ice and milk.

I can't tell that caffeine does anything for me. I don't feel different with or without it. My husband seems to go for it first thing though. That's why I suggested a backup for 'ya!

@ALRATIBA Ours has worked off and on for this week. We love the model so much ( a Cuisinart Two to Go) that I purchase new ones off ebay. There aren't many around at this pont, so we may have to go to a new model once the new one I have in the closet breaks.

I keep a spare coffeemaker just in case the one I'm using dies. It is upsetting when your coffeemaker won't work.

In case the power goes out, I have a stovetop pot (moka pot) for my gas cooktop. I also have a Melitta pour over thingy that sits on top of a mug and boiling water is poured into it to make a cup of coffee.

Something needs to be done about the manufacturing of just about everything. Most everything is made poorly and doesn't last.

I had a Cuisinart that looked nice, and made great coffee. To make a long story short, Cuisinart has a good return policy, but it's a major hassle.

After 4 returns within a year, I stop using the hassle of a return policy and just bought another brand. (Was not a cheap coffeemaker).

This time a Keurig. It's a great coffeemaker, but will die quickly just like the Cuisinart. I'm on my 4th Keurig in a year.

My next choice is to stop drinking coffee. We only drink a cup or 2 in the morning.

How can companies get away with making inferior products? Back in the day, I used to buy many things that lasted so long.

Guess it's all about keeping $$$ moving and keeping another country in business.

When we sold our mountain house, I kept several kitchen items for " backup "....Keurig (same as what we have had), B& D tea pot, crock pot, iron, etc. Either we or friends needed a replacement quickly.

While in FL, I check out the Goodwill and other thrift stores looking to replace the replacements. Have been very lucky to date !

I can't even tell you how many Keurigs I've gone through. They would start out good but wouldn't last. I'd call their CS, jump through the required hoops, and they would send a replacement. With the last one though, they told me I had reached my limit on the free replacements. Ummm, I'm not the one who made the crappy machine. You were, Keurig. 🤦‍♀️ A couple of years ago I left Keurig and haven't had a moment's regret. We're using a Ninja Dual Brew and love it! It has the option of using ground coffee or kcups. I can make a single cup with loose grounds without needing the personal kcup. The carafe is large so a full pot is perfect for DH and I in the morning. My favorite feature is the built in frother.

One of the best things about the motorhome is we usually have a duplicate of the important things we need daily! We too have keurigs, and I still have my original Keurig that I bought when they first came out. I love it other than not being able to completely empty it. But I do agree about the French Press, I love our but DH won't bother-it takes too long. sigh.

HaHa! I beat you all. When I bought my Keurig ,David said this will be the last time we will have this, a new model wll be next, so i bought a second one right then. It's still in a box with my present one going onto 19 years. No funeras here for my pot.

Life isn't bearable without my morning coffee!

Had 2 KA. First one quit during the warranty and KA replaced it with no hassle. Second unit quit during the Covid Shutdown! 🤤

I wet back to a Mr. Coffee. Better coffee than I've had in a long time!

@ALRATIBA May it rest in peace. wow, 14 years is a long time for an appliance now days. But,life must go on and I hope you develop a wonderful new relationship with your new coffeemaker.

@JeanLouiseFinch Your story is mine,except I just gave up after the third one and ate the $$ loss. The one I had kept dying after cleaning it (exactly) as instructed.

I bought A NInja and love it. I have enjoyed the iced coffee feature this summer. It came with a pod maker as an option but I have never used it as it can make an 8 oz. cup just fine.

I agree with poster stating that french pressed is terrific. I just cannot do all of the processes required before I have a cup of ambition.

Sorry for your loss..A couple of years ago when mine died..I went back to my trusty Farberwear 12 cup perk pot..that is 50 yrs. old..I use a paper filter in the basket ..today's grounds are way to fine for the basket.

Even fought( argued) with my Sister for my Mom's when we cleared out our parents house.

I have a rechargeable frother that we take on trips but this built in feature is so good. Direct power is such a plus - no loss of power or battery running down. Zip, zip, zip and your additions are blended in. ☕️
