Small Multi Cooker -- HELP

HSN has a Curtis Stone 2 qt. multi cooker as their TS today that I'm tempted to buy. It's similar to QVC's K95985 which sold out. HSN price is $30, QVC's $70. These days I'm only cooking for 1, but I like cooking with leftovers in mind.

Do I buy it -- I need help or an intervention to be very selective in purchasing something like this.

I bought an earlier version of this a couple years ago. I've never used it. I don't know what to cook in it except rice. I guess I haven't needed any rice.

Maybe I should watch his presentation?

That is a neat looking machine. I really like it has a bake feature; unlike other multi-cookers out there.

If you buy it, make sure you have a more recipes cookbook for 1-2 people like Fix-It and Forget-It Cooking for Two. (Amazon) His cookbook he's showing looks like a starter book.

A 2qt. cooking vessel is very small. I use a 2qt. saucepan frequently, and I can't imagine using that size of a vessel to actually cook a main dish or a larger side dish. If you think it is something you would use, you can always return it if you don't like it, although the return cost is likely a third of the price.

I started a thread about this item, considering to buy it, here earlier today - Take look at the responses there! I think I am passing- I cook for 2 and use leftovers, and don't need it for rice and grain- Hope this helps!

I didn't see your post earlier. Found it, read it and decided this Curtis Stone cooker is not for me. See, I don't need an intervention, just have to ask the Q ladies.

I also posted this on the other multi cooker thread. My mom has the original (small) one and she actually uses it quite a bit. She is in her 90s and lives by herself. She’s used it for rice, soups, banana bread, and “dump” pasta dishes. It’s perfect for her as she doesn’t want lots of leftovers (2 servings is fine for her), she doesn’t want to babysit a pot on a burner, plus her slow cooker is too big/heavy for her now.

While I'm not as old as your Mom, I only cook for myself also and bought the cooker. Not having to watch the cooker and the variety of meals available will make me eat more healthy. I also purchased the cookbook as it is written specifically for the cooker and I'm looking for different things to make.

@Fluke67 Thanks, you convinced me to get this! We'll use it on the road in the camper, I hate taking our crockpot, it's too big.

Coffee drinker, I too am cooking for one and I ordered this cooker and the cookbook. I'm soon moving to an apartment in a retirement community. Since the facility provides meals, the apartment has a refrigerator but does not have a stove. I won't be cooking a lot, but I to want to cook some. I'll use this cooker, my Instant Pot, a microwave and my Breville Smart Oven for any cooking I want to do. I like Curtis Stone products and assume I will like this cooker as well.

By the way, the QVC product to which you refer (K95985) is a 6-quart product - too larger for my needs.

BTW I also like Curtis and remember when he had a show "Take Home Chef." Anytime I went into a grocery store, I always looked for him. Never did find him. Dang!!!

Thank you @Fluke67 you convinced me to get this to. I had no idea about it and just watched the presentation. I am not much of a cook and I am single, and if your mom in her 90s can use it, I can too. I like that it bakes (love baking) and the little egg things (I can mix-in veggies in my eggs). And I got the extra bowls so I can make a meal w a few dif things in a covenient way. Excited about the purchase.

I would love the dump pasta recipe too!

I double checked on this. K95985 is a 2 quart cooker (8 cups), just like the HSN one. The measurements suggest the qvc is a little bigger, but I am thinking that may be the handle. I didn't watch the presentation. The K95985 claims a lot of functions but none is baking, which is a big selling point for me. I suspect the HSN one can handle the other functions too.

Maybe the price discrepancy is the power. The K95985 description states it is 1000 watts, and there is no watt info in the Curtis Stone description. If anyone knows, please post. But I am thinking a smaller wattage may not make a big difference.

I bought two, I have two homes. I have a monster ninja multi cooker that I love, but wanted something smaller. Good for keeping gravy warm on holidays or making a small pot of soup. Rice too. I will be getting rid of several other pieces of cooking equipment I don’t need. I’m also interested in some of the one pot meal recipes.
