Missing Ingredients Making Salads

We belong to both Sam's Club and Costco.

We have been members for many years to Sam's. I really liked the store. When I was working I always went out to lunch and it was always a rush. After seeing the nice selection of items, I started to make my own salads for lunch. Sam's had such a nice selection of items to put in the salad. Like 5 bean salad, pickled beets, marinated mushrooms, marinated asparagus and marinated artichoke hearts, along with cottage cheese and a large selection of varied fresh produce.

My salads were something that I looked forward to.

Several years later we joined Costco because it was alot closer. The selection of items wasn't nearly as much as Sam's but I didn't care I just stocked up when I went to Sam's.

Now when I go to Sam's or Costco the selection is disappointing. Sam's used to have a choice of at least 5 different types of pickles - whole, sliced, gherkins, spears and bread and butter. Went yesterday - there was one type of pickles. And two types of whole olives. There are artichoke hearts in water. No other jarred items that I used to put in my salad.

Costco is the same. One type of pickles now. There are artichoke hearts in water. And they used to have olive spread but it is now gone.They do have 2 types of whole olives. No other jarred items that would go in a salad.

They both have romaine lettuce and tomatoes. Sam's has more of a selection of fresh produce. Costco it is more hit or miss with their selection.

I am wondering if this is temporary. Since both stores seem to be affected. Or does my salad making days have to learn to live with lots of lettuce and tomatoes.

This is interesting.🤔 It is possibly a supply chain issue, or simply supply and demand.🤷‍♀️ We just celebrated Memorial Day so MANYYY salads were enjoyed.😄 I am certain it is temporary!🥰 Hopefully, this will be resolved soon for you, because I eat salad at least three days per week so I empathize with what you are experiencing!😁

~~~All we need is LOVE💖
Each day more and more new products are introduced, and when it comes to the warehouse clubs, I think they only stock what they know moves quickly and what they can obtain at a good price.
I'm not someone who would use most of those ingredients in a salad.
I agree those seem ingredients seem available at most grocery stores. I think groceries stores are carrying more pickles than ever before, with the pantry stable jars, the refrigerator jars, and individual pouches.
I love a great salad. I have many toppings, but I think the warehouse clubs change so frequently, I swear sometimes you can't find the same things twice. Most times I grill peppers, onions and mushrooms. Love them grilled on a salad. And it can reduce the amount of dressing (less calories). I also like the crispy French fried onion rings on it for crunch. (There goes the calorie savings!). We now only belong to BJ's (closest one to me).
You can find pretty much all of those ingredients at Aldi or Lidl.
@drizzellla wrote:
We belong to both Sam's Club and Costco.
We have been members for many years to Sam's. I really liked the store. When I was working I always went out to lunch and it was always a rush. After seeing the nice selection of items, I started to make my own salads for lunch. Sam's had such a nice selection of items to put in the salad. Like 5 bean salad, pickled beets, marinated mushrooms, marinated asparagus and marinated artichoke hearts, along with cottage cheese and a large selection of varied fresh produce.
My salads were something that I looked forward to.
Several years later we joined Costco because it was alot closer. The selection of items wasn't nearly as much as Sam's but I didn't care I just stocked up when I went to Sam's.
Now when I go to Sam's or Costco the selection is disappointing. Sam's used to have a choice of at least 5 different types of pickles - whole, sliced, gherkins, spears and bread and butter. Went yesterday - there was one type of pickles. And two types of whole olives. There are artichoke hearts in water. No other jarred items that I used to put in my salad.
Costco is the same. One type of pickles now. There are artichoke hearts in water. And they used to have olive spread but it is now gone.They do have 2 types of whole olives. No other jarred items that would go in a salad.
They both have romaine lettuce and tomatoes. Sam's has more of a selection of fresh produce. Costco it is more hit or miss with their selection.
I am wondering if this is temporary. Since both stores seem to be affected. Or does my salad making days have to learn to live with lots of lettuce and tomatoes.
I went to Sams club yesterday and just fyi they had a 4 bean salad in the jar.
So I think the wholesale clubs buy one shipment and distribute the item to their stores. If the items aren't big sellers. The items are not bought again by the wholesale club.
It seems like many items that I like turn out to be "one and done" items.
