Dumb Question

I have 5 kids-all adults. Every year on Mother's Day they drop in-never know when/who is coming. For once I'd like to have something I can put out for them to eat while we visit. Something already made, hopefully finger foods, just SOMETHING, you know? Thanks for any tips.

I'd put out a slow-cooker with HOT DOGS on "warm".......and a tray of buns and condiments........

Charcuterie boards would be fun. You could do a savory one (pepperoni, cheeses, crackers, olives, nuts, etc) and a sweet one (small cookies/brownies, chocolates, etc).

Or you could do deviled eggs, breads (zuccini, banana nut, poppyseed) or even just popcorn (different flavors might be nice).

I don't know why they are "dropping in" with no notice to you on Mother's Day. Let them bring the snacks.

@Judaline Do you mean sweets or savory? Snack type or something like a dessert--cake or pie? Do they have specific food likes/needs?

Give us some idea what you and they would like!

Meatballs in a crockpot, deli potato and macaroni salads, veggie tray, and paper plates.

How about wraps? Ham and cheese wraps or roast beef ones that you can make the night before and just slice the next day?

Chip and dip or salsa and chips and hummus

A veggie tray and or fruit tray from store

Brownies, cookies from store

A charcuterie board is a great suggestion. Have some additional components ready in the fridge so you can replenish as needed.

What ever you serve, make it something YOU like.

How about finger sandwiches from the supermarket? OR get a sub sandwich from the local shop, maybe the one they grew up with, and cut it into several pieces.

Agree with @freakygirl

This is your day they should be hosting you not the other way around. Do you have to clean up aafter them too? I would make plans to do something I really enjoy and when they "drop by" the surprise will be on them.

If they'd all come together it would work, but they are all different since some work, some will be going to their spouses' moms, too, and it's just too complicated.

@Sooner No sweets-the girls won't touch them. Snack type is the best. I feel stupid just putting out chips and dip. I would like little individual things (like what??) because as I said they'll be coming in shifts and if the first guys/gals eat everything, I'm done.

If you do it, they expect it. It is your day to let your adult children do something for you. You can offer a nice cold drink or coffee/tea, other than that, I'd leave it up to the ADULTS.

Most have to visit both sides, but they can handle it!

You did enough all of the years that you raised them.

It would depend on what time they are coming and how long they are staying. I know you said some would pop in at various times so I would just make it snacks like cheese and crackers, fruit and a cookie tray.

If they don't plan on staying long or come in the middle of the afternoon, then they don't want sandwiches.

Anything not eaten on Mother's Day you can eat during the week.
