Duncan Hines Brownies

Shrinkflation has happened with Duncan Hines brownie mix. I haven't made them in a long time, but when making them it was clear that there was definitely a lot less batter. Used my usual brownie dish. Thinnest brownies ever. First thing my daughter said was how thin they were.

Id rather have the option to decide pay more to get what im supposed to get when it comes to a mix, as we cant really adjust that! That blows, sorry.

You have to buy the larger family size box to fill the standard 9x13 pan or make the regular size box in a smaller pan.

Everything is now more expensive for less product. If they give you any less product than they do now, the directions will tell you to add only half an egg.

We just finished some of those. I didn't notice any difference. Was it the family size box? They were good.

A lot of items have less product. The price should reflect that you are not getting the same amount.

I only bake and make everything homemade. Then I'm not disappointed.

I mostly bake from scratch, so I have not encountered this issue. However, I am thinking of all the older recipes that instead of giving measurements, it's a box of this and a can of that. Those recipes certainly made impacted, and not as easy and convenient, since now one must do math to get the proper amounts. I said math, because that's not my strong suit. Lol

No, not family size. I don't buy family size, it's just 3 of us. Brownies were barely 1/2 inch in thickness.

I will just make them from scratch. These companies should be raising prices instead of not giving you enough of what you bought to make brownies with?

I have not used a box cake mix or brownie mix in years.

I noticed the lesser content with cake mixes. I had a mix in the cabinet from a few months ago, it was a bit over 15 ounces. The new mix I purchased was a bit over 13 ounces.

My daughter has a cookbook, "Quick Fixes with Mixes" which is now useless unless you have a calculater. HaHa!

@ScrapHappy I noticed this when I bought what I thought was a 5 lb bag of sugar. I didn't catch on at the check out because the price was the same, and I guess I was in a hurry or distracted or whatever. But at home I realized it was a substantially smaller package - I'd say 4 lbs, but it isn't even shown on the label. Now I'm looking for and seeing it in other products. Instead of increasing the price and risking upset customers, they're covertly shrinking the amount of product.

And while you noticed it in your boxed brownie mix, the "all my baking is homemade" people are dealing with the shrinkage too (e.g. the smaller sized bag of sugar).

Walmart has been out of my raspberry sherbet forever, my friend found it at another store and the tub was much smaller and the same price. Burns me up.

@ScrapHappy - now some brownie/cake mixes say to use 7x11 pans instead of 9x13! I got caught with smaller brownies like u did because I didn't read the directions! I thought I didn't have to since I've been making them for maybe 50 years🤣💗💗💗

I hope everyone knows who has caused shrinkflation. Have you noticed the ice cream cone hasn't shrunk.

@ScrapHappy I agree. I've resorted to a slighly larger pan and make a double box of brownies. I really like Pillsbury the best though.

We like the Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix. I often add about a 1/2 cup chopped Texas pecans. Yummy.

It makes an 8 X 8 inch pan. I don't think the size has changed over the years I've been using it. It's still 18 oz.

I bake the brownies for 35-36 minutes (less than the box recommends) so they stay very moist.

It's ridiculous what they've done with boxed cake mixes. I gave up on them when the shrinking began.

@Carmie- I've been making the DC dark chocolate brownie mix in the family size for years and have always used an 8X8 pan. It makes a thicker brownie and the baking time is on the box.

I agree Pillsbury for brownies are more moist and fudgier. For cakes then I always go with Duncan Hines.

Specially Selected Double Chocolate Premium Brownie Mix from Aldi is still an 18 oz. mix.

They're really good too.
