I have a rice cooker. I used to use it a lot because my rice never turned out so well cooked on top of the stove. It was always a gooey, blobby mess.

I finally learned to rinse my dry rice really, really well and no longer have a problem cooking it. I haven't used my rice cooker for years.

If I had to make a large amount of rice, I would use the cooker, but it's not needed for the 1 cup of rice I usually cook at a time.

We have two Zojirushi rice cookers and use them at least once a week. One is at least 15 years old and makes great rice to this day. It is a white Fuzzy Logic one that was expensive when we bought it.

The newer one, which was cheaper, is a smaller Zojirushi but it also does quinoa, steel cut oats, and some other things.

We love them and use them all the time. We also have a small and a large Zojirushi bread machine, and a couple water bottles.

I took a look at it on the Kitchenaid web site. It's certainly interesting. It's includes 21 presets for cooking rice, bean and grains. And it measures the necessary water for each based upon weight and setting. So you don't have to measure the water yourself. It takes the water from a tank.

Interesting in that it doesn't appear to make a lot of rice. I know families that cook a lot of rice and this would not make enough rice for them. This is not a heavy-duty rice cooker/steamer.

We've had several rice cookers over the years. They're very convenient and make good rice. Although we've used them more for steaming vegetables than for cooking rice. Never paid more than $20 at Target for one.

These days I make rice in the Instant Pot. It turns out really well and it's so easy. Haven't used my rice cooker since I got an Instant Pot.

I have a Zojirushi that cost a little less, but it is a smaller size. Wouldn't be without it. Has a cycle for brown rice which I rely on.

Must say I would never pay for one with a water container. Takes up a lot of space and has no real function.

I love Rice but only make it occasionally, since DH is (literally) a Meat & Potatoes man.

When I cook it, I use the trick that Jamie Oliver taught: 1 cup of rice and 2 cups of water - Bring to a boil, then cover and let it simmer on low for 15-20 minutes.

Comes out perfect every time!

So saying that, to say: I have no need for a rice cooker, and especially a $300 one.

I guess I am in the minority here - I boil water in microwave and add my minute rice let sit until most water is evaporated, and it's done.
