Suggestions needed for a freestanding trash compactor.

Garbage and trash cans have become a problem for us. Our city garbage day is Monday but if that is a holiday - not picked up until Wednesday. Plus the city has issued special garbage cans. The city doesn't keep the calendar updated. Today was supposed to be no pick up but they did. I called the city this morning to order and pay for an extra garbage can and were told they were sold out and city council has not approved to reorder.

Currently my local Lowe's and Home Depot are sold out.

Would it be worthwhile to put it out on an iffy day just on spec? I do see that here at times.

I always go to the website of our trash collector company in my city if I am iffy on whether they pick up or not due to a holiday week. If I can't determine from that I call them. Fortunately we are provided with a calendar for the whole year so you can refer to at any time provided you keep it.

I'm glad our pickup is on Tues. The City here sends out email with their Holiday Schedule that shows when your pickup day will be if it falls on the Holiday.

Once we put trash in the lawn can instead of the trash can by mistake. They DID NOT pick it up. I called in to complain about it. I told them we had never done this before it was a mistake but we need our trash picked up otherwise where are we suppose to put nexts weeks trash. I told them that's not right to not pick it up just because it's in the wrong color can. Who cares which can it's in??? They did come back by to pick it up.

@SaveTheTurtles : City hasn't set up a notification system yet. I installed the app that has the calendar but it isn't updated. I asked if they could do another pick up? She stated that the couldn't since I failed to put the garbage out and it wasn't their mistake. She just said, sorry. So will start putting the garbage out if not sure.

@Nightowlz : Thankfully you have a better city with better customer service.

I am handicapped and not able to take the garbage out. DH struggles to take the garbage to the curb. His sister , helps with this if she is available.

I stay busy trying to compact any trash we put in the kitchen trash can. I stay busy breaking down any delivery boxes.

@Kachina624 : I know that I need to do this. No extra energy. I am dealing with a medical issue and on a high dose of medicine. I normally do all the phone calls and whatever is needed for the house.

I'm so sorry there's nobody that can help. You would think one of your neighbors would set it out for you?

DH puts up a neighbors across the street for her since she has a lot of back issues. Generally her grandson or one of her sons sets it out when they drop by.

DH also goes over to his mom's every Mon to set hers out & back over on Tues after pickup to put it back up.

Someone told me The City will get our trash to the curb if we cannot? Guess when we need help we will find out.

Trash compactors are expensive! I looked at them on Lowesdotcom and only saw one freestanding model, and all were priced over $1,000.

@SouthernBee I'd contact everyone I knew to see if there is a kid I could hire to deal with trash, a civic group who would do it for donations, a church youth group etc. Someone who you could get to deal with it if you put the sacks in the back yard then they could put it in the bins and on the curb.

A trash compactor gives you heavier smaller bundles, but mom had one and quit using it--not sure except she got tired of using it.
