We eat most of our meals at the kitchen table but we do have a smaller tv in the kitchen and we usually watch the news. When the kids were young we didn't put it on until we were done. If we ordered a pizza or something like that, we usually eat it in the family and watch a movie.

Do you and/or your family eat your meals at the table or in front of the tv? I grew up eating every meal as a family at our dining room table. My family now continues that tradition. I am wondering what other families do at meal time.

When I was growing up we ate in front of the TV. When my dh and I got married we also ate in front of the TV. However, once we started having our children, we changed and have been eating at the kitchen table. We talked out about everybody's day, upcoming events, etc. Having done this both ways, eating with my family was truly the best decision for our family.

We eat in front of the tv. No need to be so formal. There is only the 2 of us and no children. If there were children I think we would have had our meals together at the table though.

We grew up eating at the kitchen or dining room table, and I carried on that tradition. Until recently when my husband's work schedule changed, we ate dinner every evening as a family, it was pretty much mandatory for me. Now he goes to work before son gets home from school, but I still serve all meals at the table.

Once in awhile, if there is a movie or something we want to watch and relax, we will eat in the family room while watching, but that might only happen once every couple of months.

After my dad passed away, and us kids left home, mom couldn't bring herself to eat at the table anymore. She said it just brought the tears to see all the empty chairs, and her there alone. I understand when alone, eating at the table may be hard with memories like that to make it seem so lonely.

Unfortunately, most days everyone eats at different times, so we rarely eat together. My son eats at the kitchen table, he doesn't like tv and doesn't watch it, my daughter usually takes her dinner to her room, no tv, and my husband and I usually eat together later, in front of the tv.

We had different schedules for the other two meals so usually did not eat them together.

I live alone now & my dining room is set up as an office so I never eat there. I live in a small apartment & have no no space for a table in the kitchen. I eat my meals in the living room.

We ate dinner as a family when I was growing up and also all through our children's years at home. Now we eat in our dining room about half the time. If we cook, we eat in the dining room. If we're just having a sandwich and chips, we eat in front of the tv. I much prefer eating in the dining room. We eat slower and talk lots in the dining room.

My hubby and I are on,y children and we ate with our families in the kitchen, lots of discussions about the day. We did the same when are children were at home. Although it has been the two of us for some time we always eat in the kitchen, nice china, silver, candle burning. When the weather is nice we eat on the patio and then enjoy the outdoors until dark just talking. Thanks for starting this interesting thread!

We have an open concept house, so we eat at the table watching TV, which is on all the time. I get enough crumbs on the floor this way, sitting on the couch would be disastrous.

We always eat as a family, unless DH has a late meeting or something else comes up. We end up eating most of the time at the kitchen island, once in a while at the kitchen table. We do have a TV in the kitchen (I always have it on making dinner), but 90% of the time it is off during dinner time(they would love to have it on!). It is very important to us to talk with our boys about their day at school or any thing else going on. We are so glad that we do this and have stuck to it. We find out about many things that we would not have known about if we didn't spend this time talking.

We both grew up eating as a family at a table. We raised our sons that way also whenever their sports schedule allowed.

Now it is just 2 of us, and 3 cats. The kitchen table holds 4 chaire, so 2 cats need to vie for seats.

No TV during meals, and no phone either. We told the kids that if they absolutly must reach us at mealtime, they must yell "house on fire" into the answering machine before we will pick up.

Interesting! After my knee surgery 9 months ago, I got into the habit of eating my dinner in bed. I have a very comfortable automatic bed that lets me sit up. I watch TV, use my ipad and eat. I look forward to that peaceful time of day. I eat about 5pm. My husband eats about 7pm. He likes to eat in the great room watching TV relaxing after a long day at work. We each like our own shows, and eating separately just works for us. We have never sat at a table in 33 years of marriage. We never have had a kitchen table! Whatever works for you is what I say!

It's just DH and I at home now, and we usually eat at the kitchen table (sometimes with the TV in the adjoining great room on, sometimes without), or in nice weather we often eat at the table on our back deck. I don't set a "fancy" table, but I do take a minute to put out nice placemats, napkins, arrange some soft lighting, and pour us a glass of wine to go with dinner. It's the little things.
