I've been baking more bread lately, but even when it turns out perfectly it's a little hard for me to slice. I have a long, serrated bread knife. I'm wondering if I should have an electric knife.

For those of you who enjoy homemade bread or buy artisan loaves at the store, what do you like best for slicing them?

Thank you.

ETA: I watched America's Test Kitchen video in which they tested bread knives and winner costs less than $25 on the big A website. I think the problem might be the knife I'm using.

I use a electric knife and I have a electric slicer that slices meats and breads ( like a deli , I used it in my catering business) but I like the electric knife the best I have used a serrated knife also but it tends to “ smoosh “ the bread

Years ago I bought a bread knife from Donna Rathmel German on QVC selling her books and stufff on the bread machine cookbook. I still use the cook books today, her first and second are the basic best. Best recipes ever. The knife is a serrated blade with a long carved handle thingie that stretches the entire length of the serrated blade. There is a space in between. The handle acts as a guide for the blade so every slice is even It is probably 15 years old and sharp as ever it was one of the most quality items I ever bought on qvc. They were custom made for her by an artisan she knew. I don't see her knives around but look on some bake sites like King Arthur and such. If anyone finds one let me know. Works like a cheese knife sorta

ETA. Try bow styles bread knife by thorswolf? It's similar style. I slice banana breads and many things with it. Sometimes I buy unsliced bread from Panera or a French bakery and this is the key

I use a serrated knife. The one I purchased was Victorinox Swiss Army 8" Serrated Bread Knife with Fibrox Handle (amazon). I really like the quality of Victorinox knives....super sharp and stay sharp. I only use my bread knife for cutting bread or cake.

Agree about letting the bread cool first, altho who can resist fresh hot bread with a slab of butter??? I use an item that I bought off the 50/50 tour QVC did in 1995---it's called the Slices Prefect--anyone remember it? That thing came with a very long serrated bread knife and an insert that adjusts to 2 levels for varied thicknesses---I use that thing nearly everyday on many things--the knife glides along the top of the wooden base and always cuts a prefect slice-- I can also sharpen that knife too --wonder if I can find a photo of it? Here it is!!! Also look online for bread slicers--found some interesting ones there. I like this one because it gives you even bread slices--I can't cut even slices with an electric knife or with a serrated knife on a cutting board free handed, either.

??
