This forum is such a wealth of experience and ideas, here is my latest quandry.

I shop at Costco and always keep a big bag of oatmeal and big bag of quionoa in my pantry. I make big batches most weeks. My question is, when the bag gets to be less than half full, I would love to transfer the contents to another container, but I like to have the cooking instructions on hand. The way my mind works, I'd for sure get the quinoa instructions mixed up with the oatmeal instructions and vice-versa. Have any of you come up with a way to store big bags of dry goods in separate containers, yet keep the recipe somewhere handy?

I just empty the contents into a canister container and then trim the portion of the bag that has any info I want to keep. I then use a bit of scotch tape to stick it on the container.

I do this with oats and coffee too. My canister containers are all like so I need to label them.

I do this with some items and I haven't really thought of keeping the recipe/directions but it's mostly flours and that type of thing. What I do though is cut off the Exp date from the package and scotch tape it to the lock n lock that it's in.

So why can't you just cut the directions out from the bag and either place in the new container or where you keep your other recipes. Sounds simple to me.

I put the contents into a lock n lock and include the cooking instructions cut from the bag or box in the container so I have them at hand when needed. Cereals and grains stay so much fresher when put in a lock n lock. I don't wait to get to the 1/2 way point if it will fit in a container I put it in there right after purchase.

Just did this for someone. I got the large clear containers with a large round cover. Makes it easier to open. With simple things like oatmeal, pancake mix and cream of wheat, she already knows how to cook those so all I did was cut out the label, tape it to the top of the cover along with the expiration date.
