Hi;

I was wondering if all or any of the temptation pieces are made somewhere else other than China? I was hoping to purchase a set, but do not like where they are made. Any thoughts to having them made in good old USA?

Thank You
Mary

I have suggested in the past that Tara put out a line of Americana bakeware and accessories as that theme is so popular, especially in the summer months. If she had that line manufactured in the USA, and made that known, she could judge how well domestically made items might sell. Even if the items were more expensive, I know lots of folks would buy them, and that might lead to more of her lines being made here. I think she is missing the mark not giving it a try.

Longaberger Pottery was made in the USA for years, but got moved overseas. The company is in the process of bringing all their stoneware back here where the baskets are made. I am waiting for that to happen, and will be buying into that line when it does. Much more expensive, but the quality is so wonderful. Blows Temptations out of the water.

I was reading on Homer Laughlin's facebook page and found this great question and the answer by HL regarding Fiesta, which is made in America.

I have a question.... I work for Dillards and every now and then customers ask us this and we don't know the exact answer.... WHAT IS IT that makes fiesta so durable and not so easy to chip??? They say if they go to get dinnerware in a different brand it chips within a few days but what cause Fiesta to hold up so well for years?

Like · · March 3 at 2:55pm via mobile

Homer Laughlin China Hi Amber, This is a great question. Essentially, the superior design and composition of our dinnerware is what makes it so durable. Our products are vitrified, which makes them stronger and more chip resistant than semi-vitrified ware, which is more porous and potentially more unsanitary. In addition, we formulate the body of our ware using Alumina to increase strength. Finally, the design and careful finishing of the edge, a crucial step in ensuring optimum chip resistance, further contribute to the strength of our dinnerware.

It's funny that I have some antique items marked "CHINA" on them. They were produced and purchased many years before the communists ruled there. We drive a Hyundai whose parts are mostly made in South Korea, but assembled here in the US. I guess the global economy is here to stay.

We live in a global economy - we buy their products and they buy ours. Some of you should go visit a city where there are merchant ships leaving this country and see them packing all those hundreds of trailers to go overseas - and see the thousands of cars we export to other countries. Are you aware that over 6 million Americans are employed by companies that make cars and the products used in cars in the USA? For instance my DH's company manufactured wire - their main customers were Ford, Chrysler and GM. Had any one of thse 3 failed DH's company would have probably closed too. When our government saved the auto industry it wasn't just the jobs at the auto plants that were saved - there were also the companies that supply the auto industry. Many people in this country are woefully uninformed about how our economy really works and they think if they buy American products that all the companies that went to china or mexico or india will come back. Not all the companies that manufacture in other countries only have plants there. Another company I know well wanted to stay here but they were spending too much shipping products overseas for their customers to use over there so ultimately they opened a small plant in China just for that purpose - but they still operate a huge plant here in Fort wayne as well.
