Processed foods are often loaded with unhealthy ingredients, not just the sodium but cruddy inflammatory oils, sugars, chemicals, etc.. One thing I learned early on in my return to health was to not believe the labeling on the front of the package. That's all marketing - aka lies, much of the time. A person may look at that chicken breast and assume it's a serving but inadvertently eat two servings because who thinks they're going to have to cut one in half? Always turn and learn. We don't buy very much processed stuff anymore.

I was going through channels last evening..In the kitchen with David was on. He was demonstrating Bacon wrapped chicken. Going on about Low Carbs. The did look yummy. I checked nutrition label. I always check.

Couldn't believe it....each wrapped chicken was 2 servings, but what really caught my eye the sodium amount...each serving ...for one type...1940 mg

and for the other type 2180 mg. Of course they didn't mention that. That is very close to the entire days worth. Much more than I would want.

I don't order food but I hope everyone really checks the nutrition before ordering. I know people don't but please do. I know frozen meals have a high amount...but this amount is just crazy.

I really do not pay much attention to the food QVC sells as I never purchase food here. But I too am trying hard to cut way back on and/or eliminate processed food from my diet. I think when I do eat it, all those additives and flavorings just boost my appetite and I overeat. I lost 40lbs about 7 years ago and I work hard to maintain my weight.

I am trying to keep my sodium at around 1500mg per day too. It is just sad how much sodium is hidden in foods I never suspected.

Lately I have been checking sodium content, due to a medical issue that has come up for me. I bought a bottle of "less sodium" Soy Sauce. One Tablespoon has 18 % of the daily requirement of sodium. Regular Soy Sauce has about double or even triple that amount. Ever popular ketchup has 8 % sodium for one tablespoon.

Yes, I will be checking more items for sodium content; it is surprising how high it is in many everyday, popular foods.

We mostly use Alaskan salmon my spouse caught and quick freezes, but we have used and enjoyed wild caught Alaskan salmon purchased from Costco and it is delicious.

We use frozen seafood almost every week with great results. I typically pull from freezer the day before cooking, sometimes 2 days, depending on thickness and have never had stinky fish. Unless you are using fresh fish you caught yourself, that fresh fish at the market is going to be several days old or older....transportation time, warehouse time, time in case....etc etc. If it's kept on ice or well chilled, it's fine. Most commercial seafood is quick frozen within hours of being caught.

Nutrition Of Costco frozen salmon
Serving Size: 6 oz (168g/about 1 fillet)
Calories 220Kcal 13%
Total Fat 8g 13%
Saturated Fat 1.5g 9%
Cholesterol 85mg 28%
Sodium 85mg 4%
Potassium 620mg 13%
Total Carbohydrate 0g 0%

Chinook and sockeye are typically more expensive per pound and do have more "fat". I never noticed a strong fatty/oily taste with the Costco sockeye, but I do tend to coat salmon with olive oil, lemon and seasoning before I grill or bake.

There should be a description of the species on any package of Alaska wild salmon somewhere on the package.

That's one reason why we cook at home. Unbelievable amount of salt, fat etc in food that you eat at in restaurants. Frozen packaged ready to heat & serve food from your grocery store is not good for you. I refuse to eat it.

We eat more chicken & pork. If we eat beef I want grass fed or I don't want to eat it.

Don't get me started with the BS Apeel they are putting on our fruit. I told DH we need to plant an dwarf apple tree.
