Crockpot Question For Those That Own One...

I still love using my Crockpot brand pot. I'm having a problem and want to know if there's a fix.

The glass lid.......on the top middle there is a small "handle".

When I'm through using the pot and need to wash, I can't get the "handle" off which has a scr ew holding it on. I try to remove it, but the scr ew is made of something soft and will not let me remove it to clean underneath.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about. My last Crockpot did the same thing, so I bought another. This one is doing the same.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I just clean around the handle. The lid doesn't sit submerged in food. It doesn't get caked with gunk.

Yes but have never removed it.....I always place the lid in the dishwasher....

I have never taken a handle off of a pot lid. I put the lids in the dishwasher.

Never in my long life have I removed the knob on a glass lid to clean under it. They are made to NOT be removed. Leave it alone and don't be such a compulsive cleaner. What do you think is going to happen if you leave it alone? Death by knob?

@Sunshine Kate - I just hand wash the pot and the handle. Like others have said, I never take the handle off.

Okay, thank you all for responding.

It just looks wet underneath and I'm afraid it will get moldy. I prefer it to be super clean. I'll try just washing in the dishwasher and see what happens.

@Sunshine Kate I just bought my first stainless steel pan - HSN Wolfgang Puck. I notice some crude around the rivets when I cook with cheese. Can you use a toothbrush to clean around the handle? That's what I did tonight.

I have a crockpot (using it tomorrow, in fact). I have never removed the handle. I put it in the dishwasher after it has been used.

If you are uncomfortable, spray the area with Lysol spray and rewash the next day.

I have never unscrewed the handle from the top of my Crockpot. It seems to me that would make it too loose over time. I simply hand wash the lid or place it in the dishwasher.

I simply rinse my crockpot lid under some warm, soapy water - Yes, sometimes I notice a little condensation, but it evaporates quickly.

I use Reynolds Crockpot Liners, so I never have to wash the actual "pot" - I just give it a swipe with a damp dishcloth.

I have never attempted to remove the handle, but I know exactly what @Sunshine Kate is talking about. It always looks dirty under there and I can't get to it. And no one would ever accuse me of being a compulsive cleaner!

I'm pretty sure that you are not supposed to remove that handle. I have two Crockpot brand pots, one older than the other, and have always just handwashed the lids in warm soapy water. I just checked and neither one of them has anything under the handle.

I have had my Rival crockpot for 42 years. Still going strong with frequent use. I have never removed the lid handle to wash it. Just hand washed or into the dishwasher. They weren’t made to be removed. After this long, I’m not worried that any type of “gunk” is under there.

You only want a small amount heat & steam escaping during cooking thats why the handle is non removable. Thats how crockpots work.

I had three different sizes and frequently stored leftovers in the pot in the frig. So when I heated them up in the oven, the knob melted on the lid. I actually did this idiotic trick twice. I dumped the pots with the melted lids and will stick with the one I did't ruin.
