Cod over $30 per pound?

Was anyone else shocked by the price of the Egg Harbor Cod being sold today? Shame on Rastelli for pricing cod at such an outlandish price. I am completely locked out of the because it's is price prohibitive. Such a shame watching inflation cripple us. I fear for the younger generation. How can they possibly match our standard of living? The younger people are not going to lead the same life as Boomers.

Rastelli has left me without orders twice, there will not be a third time, as soon as they come on I change the channel. That is highway robbery, I just bought wild caught cod fillets and paid $8.59 a pound.

@Reever How much do you think it should cost to import a refrigerated product from overseas then deliver it frozen by air? I'm not surprised by the cost but am not a fish fan so the cost is a moot issue for me.

@Reever: I completely agree with your post. I've been concerned for a long time and discontinued considering any of these brands when they began down sizing their portions. When I want fresh fish and seafood I buy locally. Sadly, I have had to stop fretting about my grandkids and now recently my great grandchild's standard of living and focus on my best interests. Today's prices are really beginning to take a toll on my financial security and it's very important that I maintain my own lifestyle. I live alone and want to keep it that way.

Unless a person lives a great distance from stores I continue to not understand why anyone would order food from TV?

Having said that, many times fish is now more expensive than meat!

The shipping is what adds so much to the cost....and fish is a LOT more delicate than most meat flesh.

Rastelli always brags they age thier meat 28 days ( I THINK they mean 28 years..it's so TOUGH)..

If you did that with most fish, it'd be completely dissolved. ( rotted away).

Styrofoam boxes are made with oil,( styrene) and the shipping costs, which we KNOW are outrageous, to get the stuff to you in a condition you can still eat it.

Next time you're in the Post Office,ask them how much to guarantee to ship a frozen package to arrive in two days.

Cod and salmon and most fish is a LOT cheaper in the store....price it and see!

I bought seafood from an online company two months ago. I believe the shipping was over $50. That is incorporated into the price you see from companies with free shipping.

No one needs to know or understand or agree with why some order things online. Everyone has their own reasons for everything they buy. No right, no wrong, no judgement necessary.

No prices amaze me anymore...inflation is a reality. I recognize what is happening, but I don't allow it to destroy my equanimity or my family's peace of mind. And, of course, the relentless spending will affect the future economy as well as our current debacle.

RIDICULOUS price for cod, which isn't anything special. I don't know how the hosts can sell the OUTRAGEOUSLY OVERPRICED food with a straight face.

That's not due to inflation. That price is due to capitalism. They can charge a high price because customers are more than willing to pay that price.

Agree. Inflation has nothing to do with their outrageous prices. They price their food that way because they can. and some will pay the price. Plain and simple. After all, their prices were outrageous before inflation. Nope, can’t blame inflation for their greed.

Many years ago when QVC first started offering food items, I tried a few. They were all mediocre at best. In recent years, I've ordered a few things, but again, no standouts and not anything I couldn't get at my local stores. I live in an area where I can great seafood, fish, Italian items, chicken, etc. at far lower prices. I guess people who buy from QVC don't have these items readily available to them, but even if you shop around on the internet, you can often find better offerings. QVC is way overpriced in my opinion.

The weather has effected the fishing industry as it has effected the increase in agricultural prices . Here in California the rain and snow has effected the fising industry . I shopped at my Stater Brothers grocery store for salmon . The price was $13.99 a pound from $7.99 . I did make purchase and it was delicious . It may be the last salmon I purchase for the time being.

I wanted to ship 5# of our local shrimp to my friend in Iowa some years ago. The shipping for 2 day delivery, not even including a styrofoam box, was $100. I don't buy cod since I have lots of local and fresh seafood available here. I'm glad I don't have to depend on mail order for my fish. I've mentioned it before, the "free" shipping costs are, and necessarily so, are added into the product, no matter what it is. The retailers are not bearing those costs.

The price doesn't bother me at all because I don't intend to buy it from QVC. I can get it locally for 8 to 9 dollars a lb.

There are plenty of places to shop for seafood. I just bought a lot of snow crab leg clusters at a great price on sale for under $10 a lb. I stocked up.

@Reever You're not locked out of buying cod. Just look for a better price locally. Most people are locked out of buying many things in life...like expensive cars, mansion size houses, fancy vacations, etc.

We just have to learn to live within our means. Complaining doesn't help. No one really needs to buy expensive cod to survive. It's not essential to life.

Now if it were halibut or tuna , maybe, but not cod---I live in WA state and can get fantastic seafood year round so it's hard for me to justify buying seafood anywhere else. I haven't been to a grocery store in months---broke my ankle in Oct so I haven't checked out the fish case to see. but will check it out when I am out among the living

My market has cod for $11 a pound this week. It is not cut into uniform 6 ounce portions, beer battered, and delivered to my front door so there's that.

Fish from Asia is cheaper and has hurt the US fish market. Inflation is the reason prices are going up.

Facts. Go look 'em up. Economics plain and simple.

Im boycotting fish from the dirty Asian waters. Consumers need to be aware of the source for seafood as well as meats.
