I am cooking my flat corned beef in a crock pot on low for 8-9 hours. Easy to do. I am wondering how those of you cooking this will make it.

Will it be on the stove top? oven? or?

I also will make roasted carrots, cabbage with bacon and mashed potatoes separately. I don't like them in the crock pot with the corned beef.

HAPPY HOLIDAY TO ALL.

I'll cook same amount of time as you on low; so convenient isn't it?!

If I am making something, I usually wonder if I can use the crock pot for it. You are right, it is so convenient.

I always make turkey legs in it too. I can purchase them all year long and they are so reasonable compared to beef.

Enjoy your Holiday meal.

I never thought I'd like it so I've avoided it all these years. I finally made my first corned beef last year, following the package instructions to simmer for a about 3 hours. It was good, but I had nothing to compare it to. This year, I'm thinking about trying it in the oven. The instructions I read said to rinse and blanch the meat first, then put it in a baking dish, on a rack, with the package seasonings and a little water in the pan, and bake at 350* (time depends on the size). Adding veggies to the pan is optional

Since we don't eat potatoes or carrots, I'm making mashed cauliflower and steamed baby cabbages (Brussels sprouts) to accompany the corned beef.

I LOVE corned beef!!! I cook mine in the crock pot for many hours then add the cabbage ,spuds, carrots when there is a couple hours left before the meat is done--that way the veggies aren't soggy but the cabbage gets that yummy flavor--but this year, since my loan for buying corned beef hasn't been approved yet --DD and I will make corned beef paninni sammies, and cole slaw. And maybe a beer for good luck!!!

I place the corned beef in a Dutch oven (Le Creuset or Lidge), add a bit of water or stick, add potatoes and carrots, and sprinkle with pickling spices.it cooks for 2-3 hours on 350.

I used Mothertruckers oven recipe last year for my corned beef and it was excellent! Very easy, so tender and moist - perfect. This year I forgot about that recipe and made it in the crock pot along with the carrots and cabbage (at the end). The results? The corned beef was fine, but not nearly as moist as the oven method.

I'm going back to the oven method....plus I don't have to drag out my giant slow cooker! I'll cook the carrots, potatoes and cabbage separately in beef broth.

Glad you posted this great recipe again!
