Sounds like a great idea. I'd prefer a thermometer with a readout on the outside of the door so the heat wouldn't be lost opening the door.

I've never had any luck with the toothpick method of testing bakes for readiness. I was watching "Joy of Baking" recently and Stephanie used a digital probe thermometer, the kind most of us use for meats.

I recently baked banana bread in an unusual shaped pan, so I wasn't sure of the timing. When the thermometer read 205° the bread was perfect.

Is this a secret eveyone knew about except for me?

I wonder if there is a temp graph available for baked items like there is for meat? I need to go Google.

Yes, I saw a Tiktok about this. They said if the toothpick comes out clean, your item is over baked and to always use a thermometer.

That's good to know. I love baking, and I agree with the last poster....if the toothpick comes out clean, it can sometimes be over baked. Not sure what temperature coincides with which big dessert, I'll have to check into that further.

I found an interesting blog site that has info....thank you @house_cat for info. Never even thought about temps for baked goods.

Since we can't post links ...the Blog is called thermoworks

.com

/bread/baked-good-doneness-temps

My meat thermometer for meat has helped me become a much better cook. I am going to try this next time I bake desserts or bread.
