Anyone Like English Muffins?

I love English Muffins for breakfast. My favorite brand is Thomas', but they put so much cornmeal on the bottom it gets all in my toaster and countertop. So messy!!

Does anyone know of a store bought English Muffin that does not put cornmeal on the top or bottom?

I have an English muffin just about every day. I usually buy Orowheat or Franz extra crispy. I can't say I ever noticed a mess from cornmeal. I buy presliced, but still have to cut open with a knife. These may be local to west coast brands.

I rub it off because I do not like cornmeal in any shape or form or anything made from cornmeal.

I don't know about "cornmeal" but Thomas' got to be too expensive. We have switched to Trader Joe's "classic" English muffins and like them a lot at half the price of Thomas'.

I like English Muffin bread. It freezes well and that's important since it takes me a long time to use a whole loaf. I use it for french toast, too. The texture is great for that.

@Sunshine Kate Love them. Thomas is the only brand I like. I only buy the ones with raisins. If those are out of stock I get the original. I've tried Franz but only buy them if I'm desperate!

@kaydee50 Thank you for the TJ's tip! I like Thomas' too but think they're too expensive. Sometimes I buy store brand, but Trader Joe's is probably better.

Mr 4kitties likes the Thomas's and I like the Bay's.

I just brush the excess cornmeal off with my hands over the sink before we toast them.

I love English Muffins, too. I prefer Bay's over Thomas' & Bay's doesn't have the cornmeal problem. But when I do buy Thomas' I wait for them to go BOGO at our Publix.

Speaking of Publix, years ago, ok, probably more like decades ago, LOL, they used to sell Pickwick brand English Muffins in a bright yellow package. They were the best. Does anyone remember those?

Because many here have complained about cost of Thomas' they may not opt to try these, but Wolferman's Super-Thick English Muffins are so good. I often give these as gifts to families. They freeze well so if you have room in your freezer they are exceptional. I'm only aware you can order online though, never seen them in any store.

Yes, we love English Muffins and especially the plain as we can do whatever we want with them...breakfast muffins with egg, ham or cheese or whatever your heart desires...much healthier than McDonald's for sure which we stay far away from... or just spread a really good strawberry jam...and we also use them to make little healthy pizzas which are a perfect size for me...so you can really do so much with them.

My son eats a Thomas English Muffin every morning.

I like the cornmeal. I collect it in the plastic bag and feed it to the birds and squirrels.

Try a crumpet sometime. Very close to an English muffin, but a bit softer and no cornmeal. Much nicer on the toaster. Love these.

@MyShadowLove Actually, the McMuffin (the regular one with canadian bacon) isn't the worst thing you can eat if you are on the road. Especially if you don't eat the cheese and the top half of the muffin. Or if you are really hungry, scrape the cheese off.

That makes it marginally better than the donut and will stay with you all morning. Sad experience tells me this! LOL!!!

I like Thomas's, but don't buy them too often.

The only ones I really disliked were the expensive Wolferman's. I ordered a multipack deal years ago from their website. They arrived in a box that wasn't strong enough for the weight of the dozen packs of muffins and was split completely open. The English muffins only had twist ties on them, so not even securely packaged.

We tried a couple different flavors and you had to toast them about three times to even get them a little brown. They were too thick and doughy.

I did notify Wolferman's about the condition of the order and all I got was "Oh...sorry. Here's 10% off your next order!" (Never happened.) In fact, we just threw out the last of the muffins a month ago, when we cleared out our freezer. A friend asked me, if I'd ever tried them. Said yes and why did she ask?

She said her mother-in-law insisted on sending them to everybody as a Christmas gift and nobody liked them! I notice they're no longer sold on QVC. I wonder how many "returns" they got.

ETA: @cjm61 - Wow. I just saw your post about Wolferman's. What a different experience from mine and my friend's. Out of our 12 packs (4 to a pack), we ate maybe 6 muffins and tossed the rest.

I only buy and eat Thomas'. I never really noticed much cornmeal. I like mine with natural PB and jelly. I will not buy other brands just because they are cheaper so not worth eating!

@brandiwine - My DH is British and I learned to love crumpets while living in England.

We used to be able to get them in our local stores (imported from Canada) for a reasonable price, but then they stopped stocking them.

I had a friend from England bring lots of packs, when she visited this year and I put most of them in the freezer.

Then just before Christmas I placed a huge order with a company in Britain for Christmas items, along with 8 packs of crumpets! The shipping was very high, but everything I got was so worth it.

wolfermans are soooooo good, but even better are the ones that come from THE MODEL BAKERY. not cheap, but delicious! i tried to get them right before christmas and they were sold out for holiday delivery times. i waited too long.

we made some crab puffs that require english muffins and purchased BAYS, but they also have cornmeal on them.
