Do You LIke This Coffee Maker's Coffee?

A couple weeks ago I bought this single serve coffee maker. My child now living in PA became a coffee snob while going to college/working/& living in Manhattan. I thought I'd have a special coffee and use this coffee maker on Christmas for my child (& for anyone else).

But I tried 3 different brands of coffee grounds, double-filtered water from the faucet, and triple-filtered water from the refrigerator, and I'm not so fond of the coffee it makes. (I even like instant better.) I have an old school percolator that makes excellent coffee. Idk if it's me and what I'm used to, or the coffee maker.

If you have this Elite Gourmet single serve coffee maker or the Cook's Essential single serve coffee maker, how do you like the coffee it makes?

I don't like American coffee. Or what passes for it. So I drink Tea. The only coffee I ever liked was real Turkish Coffee I had in two countries in the middle east. Very chocolate black, very strong & thick, looked like a syrup. But I loved it. Coffee beans are very fine. Boiled in a copper kettle called cezve. Should be drunk after a sip of water. Supposedly clears the palate. Coffee isn't filtered. You end up with coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup.

I don't think it's you. IMO, the issue w/ these sorts of coffee maker, much like the Keurig coffee makers, is the water doesn't spend enough time w/ the ground coffee (or get hot enough w/ Kerurig). W/ a French Press or a perculator, the water and the coffee have more time to "brew". Same concept w/ letting your tea steep...need time for tea leaves steep or ground coffee to brew in the water.

The other issue is that most preground coffee is actually, imo, not ground fine enough to allow the best flavors to come thru. It's really a matter of personal preference. Too fine ground of coffee is horrible tasting too.

I think the fact that your tried to get something to please your child is fantastic. You might ask what sort of coffee beans they like and buy a bit.

I was also going to mention a French Press. If you're buying for your coffee "snob" I bet he would like this more than your typical coffee maker!

What coffeemaker does she use? Maybe, it's the New York water used in Manhattan. Try Spring water, it tastes better than filtered. You can buy it in grocery stores.

I have the Cook's in black. I like it a lot. No problems with taste, but not close to McDonald's, one of my favorites.

I have 2 French Presses that I've never used. The reason is that I don't know how to use them Yikes. I read online here that I should use a filter with a French Press.

I agree with the post that says coffee gets more robust & full flavor when it has more time with the water.

we've been using a keurig for several years. I just bought a 4-6cup presto percolator, so i could use some different flavors. I think the percolator makes hotter coffee, too. Now, i have a backup in case the keurig konks out.

when my kids are here, they will drink what ever i make.

We have a Cuisnart 2 To Go......when the first one broke, we found a second on ebay. But not sure what will happen when this one breaks. We switched to Melitta filters rather than white or gold permanent filter.

I have a Keurig, but I love the Nespresso Vertuo! It makes great, stronger cappuccino without milk or frothier, and excellent espresso. Can make ice coffee too. I love it!!! I've been drinking great coffee for years, but this is the best coffee and machine! I used to search out good coffee bean stores when I lived in Manhattan,,and found little, private shops where I would buy it. Nespresso sells their own pods,,,Columbian is my favorite. It's expensive though.

It’s fine in a pinch, but I’d rather have gas station coffee. It doesn’t brew hot enough or long enough.

@Foxxee I'm sure it is, you can't get bread or pizza or rolls any where near as good as what you get in NY!
When I have a cup of tea at my sister-in-laws, it's like the best cup of tea ever.

I bought this a few months ago from the Q. It lasted ONE time. The next time, I poured the water in and none came out. Not sure where it went. Turned it upside down to drain and returned it. Bought a $20 one on the amazon store. Works good for using your own coffee and not have to buy kcups.

i love an electric percolator, but i recently began using a french press and the coffee is so GOOD! my only issue is is that you cannot keep it hot, so the second cup has to go into the microwave. williams sonoma has an electric french press that i am considering, but it isnt cheap.

although we do own a keurig, i do not use it. i dont like the way the coffee tastes and it always comes out too weak.

That's one negative about the French Press. My way around that is I pour it into my thermal coffee cup so it stays hot. An electric french press would be pretty cool!
