My Favorite Tuna Salad

What's your favorite tuna salad? Mine is:

Great quality tuna first of all

Lots of mixed salad greens and baby spinach

Sliced mini sweet peppers

Grape tomatoes

Sweet Onion

Organic celery sliced (non-organic is bitter to me)

Sliced green or black olives

Good balsamic or Sherry vinegar for dressing

Salt and pepper to taste

I use very-well-drained tuna and usually sprinkle it with curry powder or another spice for a little more flavor--and/or some hot sauce if I'm in the mood.

I will often add other seasonal veggies or fruit if I have them and especially love mango!

I make a tuna salad that my DS, DDIL and grands all love. Late DH didn't like tuna! I use tuna packed in water, mayo only (NO Miracle Whip yuck) and sweet pickle relish. It's the best! It's good when used in a Romaine leaf wrap as well. But we love it this way.

Here's mine:

One can Albacore tuna, drained

Chopped green olives

Minced dry onion

Garlic salt (just one shake)

Lemon and pepper seasoning

Celery seeds

Kraft light mayonnaise

All ingredients to taste. Mix together.

Our favorite way to have it is spread on a toasted buttered mini Kaiser roll, topped with a cross (plus sign) of Cheddar cheese, and broiled in the toaster-oven until the cheese has melted.

DH's favorite.

I rarely make tuna salad at home anymore since my two sons no longer live at home. Hubby doesn't like tuna salad in a sandwich. Asked me to make a tuna casserole once, then asked me to NEVER make it again.

I will order a tuna sandwich at a reputable restaurant (not Subway, shudder). I always liked a good tuna melt.

If I'm making tuna salad for a sandwich, I am pretty boring. Albacore tuna in water, celery, onions, celery salt, dill relish and Best Food's mayo. I like it on just about any kind of bread item, be it roll, hoagie, sliced rye or tortilla. Also like it rolled up w/ butter lettuce leaves.

I don't think I've ever used tuna in a green salad. Not sure why not, as I'm sure I would like it in a salad.

@kate2357 You might try just plopping the tuna on top of the green salad like I do. I absolutely love the crispness and crunch of all of it eaten together. The vinegar gives it a good sweet/tartness too and the olives supply some intense flavor too. Add any dressing you like--I'm just a vinegar fan.

To us it's a year-around dish, a mainstay of our diet. Like chili--summer, winter, spring and fall!

@kate2357 Years ago I worked for a company that had a cafeteria on the groud floor. The cooks would make anything to order. I got to know one of them and he would make me a tuna melt with bacon and tomato! It was just the best. I'm drooling just remembering it!

I use water packed albacore tuna and add finely chopped onion and celery, sweet pickle relish, Hellman's light mayo, and a lesser amount of yellow mustard. Then cracked pepper. Yummy!

Ordering a tuna sandwich in a local restaurant when traveling around the country is always worthwhile. So many different versions.

When I was a little girl, my mother would take me to a restaurant where they stocked the 3 ounce Bumble Bee cans. They opened a can and made their salad fresh for every customer.

I make mine the same way, but with the edition of chopped hard boiled eggs. Ymmmm

I used to make tuna salad with well drained water packed tuna, chopped sweet pickles, chopped celery, and a little onion with Dukes mayo. Out sons loved it.

Now I get half a pound from Fresh Market.

I use water packed Starkist Light Tuna, add just enough mayo (Duke's ONLY) to hold it together, and chopped hardboiled eggs. Add a little garlic salt and coarse ground black pepper and put it between two slices of toasted bread--sourdough is wonderful, but plain ol' white bread is good, too. My favorite lunch--though I don't eat it very often!

@Love my grandkids I don't remember who gave me the idea, but I put a little sweet pickle relish in my egg salad, too (along with mayo).

My mom used the minced dry onion in hers - so good. Your tuna melt sounds wonderful.

tuna belly italian tuna packed in olive oil

finely chopped celery

mayo......hellmanns or dukes

sea salt

freshly ground pepper

onion powder or chopped spring onions

a few squeezes of fresh lemon juice

serve on good toasted bread with lettuce, red tomatoes, mayo.....possibly a slice or two of red onion.

@Chopsmom - I make mine the way my mom did too, with the minced onion! She also made tuna melts, but used regular toast for hers.

Subway is our tuna salad sandwich of choice.

When making tuna salad at home, we use:

white tuna in water

chopped egg

mayo

dill relish

black pepper

Pretty simple but tasty.
