Some I got from there were dry, so, I quit ordering. Then, other times I got fantastic ones. Just a touch of rum think it was, chocked full of fruits and nuts and dark cake batter

they were the best.

Husband never would touch I'd eat half and freeze the other half. He's not here , now, so, I can order it and not

worry about negativity.

Fruitcakes can be pricey even local. I had a code that I used that was good for almost 4 bucks off, they don't charge tax to Tx. so it came to 30. Those ol' light colored ones you see everywhere are that much and a light fruitcake is just not 'right'. LOL

@SharkE How do they compare to Beatrice? We got one from Beatrice last year and liked it. Never had Harry and David.

Can't say never had that brand. Claxton, is the brand around here, but, looks sickly to me. LOL

Used to try to imitate a dark cake I'd buy the container of fruitcake mix at walmart and add to Pillsbury cranberry bread mix and put in loaf pan. Not as dark, didn't taste as good either, but , it was OK.

going luxury this yr and get the real McCoy. LOL

The past two years I've gotten fruit cakes from Beatrice Bakery here at QVC. I think they the best I've eaten other than the ones I used to bake myself. I've sampled quite a few over the years.

One was individual slices in cellophane. For some reason I put them aside after eating a few and found them a year later in a cupboard. I tasted one with trepidation and it tasted like it had just been baked, fresh and moist, so I polished off the rest of the box.

I've got one on order to arrive in December to which I'm looking forward.

@SharkE Most Texans swear by fruitcake from the Colin Street Bakery in Corsiciana. I had them a couple years and they were just okay, not nearly as good as the Beatrice ones.

I love a good fruitcake, one without an abundance of black raisins, with a cup of coffee or tea. Haven't had that in years.

I tried to order one but the website gave me problems. They also had a Rose Cake and MOOSE MUNCH at reduced prices which I attempted to order......got stuck on the gift card which I didn't want......I will call them tomorrow......got to eat dinner ....HUNGRY !

My husband makes the old fashioned ones with good fruit and then puts them in tins, soaks them occasionally in a little Grand Marnier once in awhile so they are ready for the holidays and they keep for months after.

The more Marnier the merrier!

Me? I'll be at the church. I'm the bread/roll lady since the rest of them claim they can't make them and usually bring in Hawaii rolls or something, but, I make enough to give to the buffet table, then, to a few 'special' friends I send them home with some just for them. One lady , bless her heart, gives me gifts from that Bath shop on the Mall. I've got

all kinds of shower gel. LOL

Glad your enjoy your fruitcake. I tried, but just don't care for it. Hard to believe, but that's one cake I don't like! LOL! Harry and David, for those who haven't tried them, are a great place to order from. They have really quality items. I usually order fruit, nuts, etc., as gifts for people. Never been disappointed.

My DH LOVED his mom's. I tried a thousand recipes and bought dozens and nothing made the cut.

Ordered Beatrice like @Kachina624 ...and he said it was the best ever!!!

This year we just received the chocolate one and even I liked it!!

He swears his mom used to pour white wine over it, but I have yet to find a recipe out there calling for white wine.
