YES! YES! YES! I hate that subject!

My husband will only eat leftovers if he REALLY likes what I cooked.

But there is a catch. If he REALLY liked what I made he might have 4 helpings. So there aren't leftovers.

But I try something and he doesn't get excited about it, he complains about having to eat leftovers. And he won't eat it. And he wants me to only cook enough so we don't have any leftovers.

Well, I don't always know whether he will eat one serving or four.

We always cook for several days at a time. We most often repurpose the food, so it is something different, but salads get added to, chicken breasts will be eaten with veggies one day, made into soup, then maybe served as bbq sandwiches.

Today we had leftover chicken, steamed potatoe, and a boiled egg (which we often have in the fridge) and it became potato salad with chicken and an egg for my husband. We steam a big batch of broccoli every week and sometimes will steam a potato with it.

I made a pot of lentils with a lot of peppers, carrots, onion, celery and herbs, and I had that with organic red rice left from yesterday.

We are both good cooks, and we don't like waste, so we have a general plan for what is cooked--and it is seldom for only one meal.

This is a sore subject in our home. DH hates leftovers! So do my children. DH grew up on a dairy farm. I'm sure they had leftovers. My children ate them growing up, but they didn't like them. IDK what it is! But now that it's just the two of us he doesn't have much of a choice.

DH's one sister always has the family dinners. We'll have a big dinner, then the next night she will say we're having a few leftovers, but then she will just add "a few more "things"! (We only go once or twice a year because it's a 7 or 8-hour drive for us.)

Anyway, I LOVE leftovers! Maybe it was the lectures I heard about those less fortunate my dad gave us while we were eating. But I think some things I make actually taste better the next day.

I cook certain things with intentions to have leftovers. DH is easy to please - no issues with eating them. When we have our leftovers, it's usually not the very next day. I'll wait a day in between. Most of my casserole type recipes make four servings so I cook once, we eat twice. If I'm making grilled chicken breasts, I always make extra for another day.

There are some meals I cook to purposely have leftovers. Tonight I made meatloaf and the recipe calls for 2 lbs of meat...so I freeze part of raw meatloaf then bake off the rest. The amount I baked tonight will feed us two days...the amount in freezer is enough for one dinner and maybe a sandwich.

I don't mind leftovers and as others wrote, sometimes food tastes better on day 2. Lucky for me, hubby will eat leftovers.

My husband always "forgets" that we have leftovers, leaving them for me to eat. Sometimes, that's a good thing, like when I make Red Beans & Rice. But, I can't eat spaghetti several days in a row, so I try to remember to vacuum seal and freeze most of the leftovers to have later.

Funny, he didn't have trouble eating leftovers of unknown age before we got married. I can't say he could tell whether it was bad, at least by smell, since he can't tell when the milk sours.

I do know a lady from church whose husband WILL NOT eat any leftovers. I don't know if they eat out a lot or what. It's difficult to cook meals every day for just 2 people. My husband does eat out a lot whereas I'll generally make a sandwich or cook a frozen meal a lot. I generally eat a larger lunch and then just have a snack or something for dinner.

I never understood how anyone could not eat leftovers. Only new fresh food all the time. If I make a roast, I know for the next week or so we will be eating roast. My dh loves leftovers. If I tire of eating them I will freeze them for another time.
