Hot dogs almost $16 per pound

Shame on QVC and RayRastelli for price gouging. He is selling a gimmick (round hot dogs) for $83.50 for 5.25 pounds. I shake my head at anyone who would purchase this item. A 12 pack of angus hot dogs can be purchased for around $5 at Walmart.

Price gouging with food on Q appears to be the norm. But you will have the cheerleaders who will say don't shame them, even though no one is they are just pointing out the obvious.

In this instance, I agree with you. That's the sale price and it comes out to $3.50 a "dog"? The regular price is $101. WTH?

I know it's up to each person to spend his/her money as that person sees fit, but come on.

If I want a hot dog, I want a hot dog. Not something shaped like a burger, so that I can have it on a round bun. If I want that, I'll have a burger!

I'll stick with my favorite Oscar Mayer, Angus beef. I get a pack of 24 at BJs for something like $11.50. But I buy them when I have a coupon and save another $2.50 or more.

Not something I would buy, but using "price gouging" is way over the top for this issue.

Expensive? Yes. But price gouging means there's very little supply of something so the vendor raises the price because a consumer has no choice but to buy it.

This is free enterprise, we will see what the market will bear.

I realize no one is "forced" to buy anything from QVC but I wonder if those who do purchase food items realize how expensive the food is. I shake my head too!!

How could someone not realize how expensive something they order is? It's been said before, but some customers don't care about the price of something. Their money, their choice.

@Reever Not gouging. They are sellilng a widely available product made by their company at a well advertised price. Hot dogs are available everywhere at less than this price.

Look up gouging for the definition.

People are willing to pay some very high prices from QVC for food. I can see paying the prices for the foods that are consistently rated as fantastic, but people are paying these prices for just about every food they sell. I can't figure out why they are willing to pay so much. BTW, the prices charged are not gauging. Gauging would need to include the selling of the food that's unavailable elsewhere and usually involves the selling of necessities.

I buy my hotdogs from a local store. They are solid (not wimpy) casing hotdogs with great flavor and extra long to fit the bun. $7.99/lb and sometimes on sale for 5.99. I don't like non casing dogs.

I've never seen those round hot dogs anywhere else but Rastelli's. They've been focused on the news, and even Ree Drummond had them showcased in one of her cooking shows last year. I think they are still sold exclusively at QVC.

So the national buzz about them, and the fact that no one else is apparently offering them, makes them a curious culinary oddity, if nothing else. There's your price explanation. The buzz about them took it to major shows and celebrity cooks who put them on the grill.

That's why they're expensive.

What's so stupid about this is that every single one of us in our daily lives has paid far more for an item then another poster here would. Your fab and worth it is my yuck and not.....and vice versa.

And as others have mentioned already, to call this price gouging here is not applicable.

Neither Costco or Sam's Club by me sells Angus dogs. My BJ's doesn't sell Oscar Mayer Angus hot dogs. They do sell a 24 count of Ball Park brand. Those dogs are 1.75 oz. and cost what some may think the outrageous price of $15 for Ball Park franks. Rastelli's dogs are 3.5 oz. Not exactly apples to apples comparison.

And from what I've noticed of grocery store options for Angus dogs, different brands are around the 1.75 oz size and come in 4 or 8 count packages at varied prices.

For anyone wondering why the circular shape may be appealing to tailgaters it means only one type of bun is needed for hot dogs, burgers, or sandwiches.

Sometimes people are willing and wanting to pay for the novelty.

That is why they have easy pay @bargainsgirl spending $20.88 seems a lot more feasible than $83 for 24 hot dogs. So, no I don't think people realize what they are paying.

I agree @Caaareful Shopper they are for the QVC shopper. Just another novelty to make a sale.
