🎃 Halloween Tableware? What am I missing?

No disrespect intended towards the Halloween enthusiasts out there, but I'm really wondering when Halloween became a holiday important enough to warrant entire table settings.

I always knew Halloween to be a day when kids dressed up and went trick-or-treating... perhaps an evening costume party for adults, but I can't imagine needing a Halloween themed table setting.

Again, I mean no disrespect with this question. I would really like to know how these items are being used. I must be missing something.

Just more junk to sell. Probably trying to convince grandparents that their grandchildren will love it.

Many people have costume parties or perhaps have children who get a kick out if the tableware. If they didn't sell it, it wouldn't be manufactured.

I wondered the same thing @house_cat . The only thing I thought of was a true Halloween party or I know some people like to decorate for each holiday in home. I loved some of the Temptations pieces but I would never use it either.

I have family members and friends who go all out for Halloween, and since it takes quite awhile to put up all the decorations and since they enjoy everything so much, they celebrate for at least a week. I'm sure some of them have Halloween tableware (I know they have many serving/entertaining pieces), but most of the stuff from Temp-tations is too cartoony for anyone I know. Even those who do a fun Halloween instead of a scary one don't like all the little characters on everything, though they have picked up the occasional ramekin or bowl in the plainer Boo-fetti pattern.

I think everyone is entitled to do what makes them happy. Although my only Halloween decorations are a black pumpkin and a vase of faux black calla lilies that get set up for a day or maybe two, I go absolutely crazy with pumpkins everywhere from Labor Day weekend through Black Friday, so I can't judge too much.

I've heard that Halloween has become a big holiday among many adults. A very big decorating holiday now, for sure, in many places. Not sure about tableware.

I used to love to go all out decorating for Halloween - inside and out. But I've cut down over the last couple of years. I gave a lot away. I used to look for Halloween dishes to display in my hutch but never did find ones I liked. And no longer interested. The Temptations Boo-fetti is cute.

I think pretty much the same about dinnerware for any holiday. I never got the sense of giving space to a set of dishes I might use once or twice a year.

I'm not sure how Halloween got to be such a huge seller, but at this point I think it's behind only Christmas for decor, but you still couldn't convince me my life would be improved by a set of dishes. If someone invites me for Halloween cake and coffee they are welcome to serve me on Halloween dishes.

I do have a few Halloween themed dishes and serving platters that I use when hosting (or taking something to) a Halloween party. But not a set of dishes that I would set a table with.

@house_cat I can't see buying Halloween tableware either, but as others have stated, some people go crazy at Halloween. I worked for a guy who spent thousands each Halloween and had a huge party. One year he even hired a theatre company to do a murder mystery for his guests. His family was really into the scary stuff.

As someone who lives in an apartment, I can't even imagine having the space to store Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter etc. tableware and decorations. I might be tempted to, as some holiday patterns are so cute, so it's probably just as well I don't.

When my DH was alive, Halloween was our biggest excuse for a party. We'd spare no expense, taking over a month to plan and decorate. Family, neighbors and hospital staff couldn't wait.

Our focus remained on creating an eerie atmosphere, with high end Halloween decorations. And the smoker and grill lured many out on the deck, so it was always spooky casual. Yes, in TX it's often still warm in Oct.

I had tables set up inside and out, and a bar, but I never spent money on Halloween tableware. There was already enough going on that needed storage afterwards.

In fact, one of these days, someone has to get down all the items from my attic, including a casket. They're gathering dust since DH passed. I did lend them to the hospital once for their annual Halloween decorations. I didn't get some of them back, but that's okay. They live on, somewhere. Hope they're having fun :-).

If I had Halloween tableware, it would have gone to Goodwill by now. Yep, I'm done with it all. Halloween for me, now, is just a glass of good wine, a candy binge and crazy, wonderful memories.

I have never been one for fancy table settings any time. When first married and did not have a dishwasher I would have been happy to eat Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners off paper plates.

I do however, think fancy and themed table's settings with all the beautiful dinnerware and all the trimmings are beautiful to look at.
