Best Bought Mac and Cheese?

Occasionally, DH needs a starch and I had my piece of bread at lunch. He likes mac and cheese pretty well and I just wondered if there was a wonderful, frozen way to give him a starch.

Not frozen, but the only commercially prepared mac and cheese I like is Chick-Fil-A.

My husband likes Stouffer's Macaroni and Cheese @ECBG . He is pretty fussy about what he eats and it is the only one he eats.

Don’t care for frozen Mac&Cheese myself. It is easy to make at home, but my sister likes the Stouffers brand frozen m&c.

My vote would be Hormel. For dinner yesterday my husband and I had a Hormel turkey and gravy entree along with Hormel spiced apples. Both were great, and I will buy again.

These were in the refrigerated section of my IGA store, on the top shelf above the chicken breasts, thighs, legs, etc. The turkey and gravy entree had 6 small slices of turkey; stacked to look like one solid piece; just enough for the 2 of us, and just enough gravy to cover the tops of some mashed potatoes. Heating instructions are for warming in a skillet on the stovetop, or in a microwave; I chose microwave.

Besides turkey, my store had a sliced beef and a beef chunks entree, a meatloaf entree, macaroni and cheese, and I believe a sliced pork entree. All were around $5 each. I will be buying more for us, as well as to cook for my mother.

It's not frozen but it's simple. Cracker Barrel in a box. Just boil the pasta and then squeeze the cheese packet over it.

I found it on Wal-Mart site. It is Cracker Barrel Sharp White Cheddar Macaroni and Cheese -14 oz for $3.89.

@ECBG it should be in the aisle with all the boxed mac & cheeses.

I haven't had a chance to taste it yet, but my husband raided the Trader Joe's Hatch Chile Mac & Cheese w/Roasted Chiles I had in the freezer. He really enjoyed it and said I should pick some more up.

Yes, in the same area of the blue box Kraft stuff. In a box similar to Velvetta mac & cheese. I've bought it at Kroeger and WM. They have different variety of cheese. I like the havarti but the sharp cheddar is good.

Sam's Club sells it for $14.38 for a 5pk. If you are a plus member, they will ship for free.

I'm also not much of a Mac & Cheese eater, but I use to buy it for my mom a lot. She enjoyed the Panera's. It's in the refrigerator section next to their soups.

Costco and Sam's Club carry it in a four pack. Occasionally on sale.

@Etoile308 in the freezer section or the refrigerated? Single serving or larger? We like to keep single serving containers in the fridge as a quick side dish when one of us is making something like a hot dog or one of the Angus patties. I sometimes get the 4 pack and put 2 in the freezer so there's no rush to eat them.

@ECBG - My kids would have eaten mac and cheese every day if they could when they were teenagers. My favorite was one I made in the pressure cooker.

But if I couldn't do that, their favorite was Stouffer's frozen.

Their favorite box is still Kraft's Deluxe. I sent it every two weeks when they were in college, and I still put a few boxes in when I send a "care package" once in a while.

That's so weird! My kids favorite growing up and into young adulthood was the regular boxed kraft mac and cheese.

I always wondered how in the world they liked it so much. Such a plain slightly tasteless, glue like cardboard cheese lol!

Maybe it has to do with the same thing being a comfort, something they are familiar with no matter how awful.

@Icegoddess, yes the individual single serving size, which for me was two servings. Simple side dish. They were in the refrigerated section.

I also would freeze a couple and then take it out of the freezer the day before planning to use.
