Isn't that frustrating? The first week of my retirement, I went through all the cupboards and sorted what was expired, what wasn't used, etc.... still end up doing it occasionally as things keep piling up.

We're in the middle of boxing things up and clearing rooms in advance of having new flooring installed next week throughout the bottom floor of our house.

OMG, the amount of "stuff"! So many things we've bought that seemed like a good idea at the time, but that we haven't looked at in more than a year (at least).

We've both agreed that only a fraction of what we're packing up is ever going to go back into the rooms. The rest will be donated.

You know you have too much unnecessary stuff, when you find a box which contains the unused ordered items AND the invoice still on the outside of the box! Ordered from QVC, of course. In 2019.

I got rid of a ton of dusty, unused glasses, mugs, mis= matched dishes, even tupperware and lock-n-lock a few years back when I moved out of my house I sold-- I put some in my storage unit as my new apt has a tiny kitchen to had to pick and choose . Now to me, dead space means an open box, like a cabinet where you fill the bottom up but there is a ton of open space at the top---I found all sorts of expandable shelves to be able to stack things to use that wasted space--my very few cabinets are really nicely organized now. Forgive me if I mis -understood.

Seeing the thread title, at first, I thought of cabinets that are empty and none of that here! But, as to the 'stuff you don't use' thing - I think I have a couple of those.

I have a lot of kitchen cabinets (all full of stuff), but one of them that I keep forgetting about and actually it's mostly the top shelf, is populated with glass pieces that I can't even recall using. In fact, there is still a piece of tape that I put across the front of the items in the top shelf back, geez, must be at least over 15 years ago, when we were having hundreds of little earthquakes every day (and a 5+ one every now and then).

I did some of that taping and put other things on the floor, in the case of a larger earthquake. I think most of that has been re-done since except that one top shelf of glass pieces. I think a lot of them are wine glasses and the like. I don't drink, or even like at all, wine. Maybe I should give them away. Some are antiques, though.

I don't use 50% of the cabinets i have in my kitchen. They are EMPTY. It's same with my closet...don't use even half of the hanging space or the shelving.

I could easily downsize to a smaller house, but we live in my husband's family home that is over 100 years old and he will not move. Sigh. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful home and I have enjoyed living here. But kids are gone and it's a lot of house to maintain.

I am thankful most of the expensive updates to plumbing and wiring were done by my in-laws a few years before we moved in. My husband tells me the current layout looks nothing like when his grandparents lived in this house. Most of the bedrooms now have good closet space. We are lucky to have more storage space than we use.

I would love to have "dead" space in my kitchen cabinets! I have such a small kitchen

that the few cabinets I have are filled with things I use. My seldom-used things are in my kitchen annex...the garage. I started purging during the lockdown...mostly closets and clothes...not too much in the kitchen to toss. It is amazing how easy it is to accumulate things though, without even trying.
