Just wondering if your daughter cooks like you did when she was growing up.

We had boys. Our older son always said "Oh Mom, you'll always do it for me"!". Yeah!

@ECBG Just a grown son who likes to cook as does my DIL. They take turns. He sometimes cooked for us!

My daughter never cooked at home but she cooks now. She loves cooking shows and trying new recipes. Takes after her dad and he did all the cooking.

I can cook but I like to make simple things. I don't want to spend all day in the kitchen. I always helped with the prepping and clean up. I'm more of a cleaner.

@ECBG Having had a girl and a boy, both of them cook like me. My daughter more so. In fact she cooks more like her nonna (my mom). My daughter loves to cook and bake.

No, she is a much better cook than I ever was. In fact pretty much a gourmet as she entertains a lot.

My son is an excellent cook as well. I made sure he knew how to cook the basics. He works long hours, though, so he can rely on some of the wonderful restaurants in his area that have varied cuisine.

In today's world where kids have long hours in their jobs, I wouldn't blame them if they never cooked. There are so many wonderful take out restaurants where my kids live, they don't really need to cook anyway.

My mother is a fantastic cook and baker, and my two sisters and I love to cook and bake and think we do pretty well (and we still use a lot of mom's recipes).

My three brothers really can't cook or bake at all, even though they were taught a lot of the essentials when they were young. One married a wife who hates cooking, so they do a lot of dining out, takeout, and convenience food; another married a wife who likes to cook and bake and gets him to help when possible; and the third is a bachelor who couldn't care less about cooking and happily eats pizza for 75% of his meals.

It looks like those traditional gender roles are alive and well in my family!

I started married life cooking like my mom, but then ventured out to recipes she never made and/or methods that were different from hers. Our daughter was never interested in learning to cook. Cooking for her was boxed mac & cheese, but she had her favorites from the usual dinners I made. I have no idea what she ate when she was single and lived away from us. Fortunately, for her, her fiancée is quite comfortable and adept in the kitchen. They cook together so she's learned to cook more from him than anyone.

All my kids cook. My daughter never cooked at home but when she got out on her own she learned quick. Both of my son's cook. The older one still lives at home and cooks for us on occasion. The younger son cooks a lot. He gets home before his girlfriend so he does most of the cooking during the week.

NOPE!

But, she is an excellent "baker." The ONLY thing she cooks is breakfast. Let me put it this way, her child (my grandchild) knew all the different dressings that goes w/salads, sauces for meats & which color wine went w/fish & meats when ordering at a restaurant since the age of two!!!!! NO lie. Their lifestyle is restaurants do all the cooking.

My boys are cooks & do all the cooking in their households. My father taught them as I grew up my father did all the cooking. My mother did not cook.

I wouldn't say that. I never was much of a cook and since I'm alone, the only time I cook is Thanksgiving, which to my surprise, always turns out great. My "cooking" consists of microwave dinners and sandwiches.

Both my daughter and son are far better cooks than their mom. In fact, my DIL and SIL are excellent cooks, as well.

Nowadays with two people working in a household, there is often no longer just one person who cooks. My son has also taken cooking classes in a few ethnic cuisines.

Both my kids cook and they do a decent job. My mom was a good but simple cook. We didn't grow up with gourmet meals but comfort home food which was good enough for me. When I got married I learned to cook even better as my DH is a great cook and the kids picked up a lot from both of us!

Not a mother of a daughter, but a daughter here who cooked for the family in summers from 14 years up. Also a farm girl who grew up in a family where we all worked and you did what you could and were good at--and we didn't worry about gender bias. Which was a luxury we didn't have.

I married a man who felt the same way and that's how we have lived--he became a great cook! Almost as good as me and sometimes better, and we are both healthier for the way we eat.

Why shouldn't everyone cook and learn to? It isn't 1960 and it's as basic as learning to drive, brush your teeth, pay a bill or dress yourself.

I don't have a daughter but I'll compare m;yself to my mom. She was a very good cook but HATED doing it. She cooked the basics (meatloaf, fried chicken, pork chops roast with carrots & potatoes, etc.) when my dad was there to eat dinner in the evening. When he had to be gone overnight for his work, we had bologna, hot dogs, chef boyardee pizza and Kraft spaghetti from a box , etc. It wasn't until I was older and took an interest in cooking that we had homemade spaghetti sauce and experimented with the classics a little. I like to cook and have cutting boards, knives and gadgets for cooking. She still has and uses many of the things she and my dad received as wedding gifts or shower gifts. Any new utensil, new set of pots and pans, dishes, etc. she has are things I've seen she has that needed to be replaced, etc.

Neither cook or bake like me....at all....apparently, I better live forever or there will be no big holiday meals! LOL

DD microwaves only

DS pours a bowl of cereal. He is married and DIL has some cooking skills

In both cases, there is a LOT of take out going on. All busy with careers and kids.

My love of the kitchen did not show in either of their genetic codes!

I, too, have sons and they both like to cook. They are also very caring, nurturing men. I think that nurturers inherently like to cook... just a personal observation.

DD hates to cook, she would rather sew. She does make a good mac and cheese and will bake an occasional batch of cookies.

She likes our Ninja grill/air fryer and does steaks and chicken on that so I guess when I kick off she will not live totally on takeout.

My son is a surprisingly good cook.
