Report on my new Jr. Slow Cooker

I had asked for input on a small slow cooker recently and am reporting back. And thanks to every one who provided information and ideas.

My first try with a really pretty beige 3 qt. round one ended up with getting a poorly re-boxed one shipped from Walmart--back it went.

My next try was a very basic Hamilton Beach 4 quart, stainless with a white crock and basic dials--no automatic programming. It is attractive and light weight and the perfect size for what I want.

We made bone-in chicken breasts with Greek seasoning, a splash of tomato juice, garlic, carrots, olives and cut up tomatoes around them. They cooked on high and were pefect!

Today we slow cooked a pot of pinto beans which also turned out great. So far it has performed just as wanted and we're happy with it. Some people on reviews of this cooke online said the 4 qt. is a little smaller than 4 qt but whatever it's a great size for us.

@Love my grandkids Thanks! It makes me happy because it is small and just the right size, and easy to clean up! Don't you love when that happens?

Thanks for the info.

I've discarded several larger slow cookers over the years but have needed and wanted a 3-4 quart model for a long time. Just haven't gotten around to looking for one, and you've saved me time. I want a white interior but most are black.

@novamc1 You are thinking like I was! Yes, smaller, light, uncomplicated, not heavy and a pretty white interior. On it's two runs so far this fits the bill!

Happy hunting! Got mine at Amazon after the other one had to go back in it's shipping box someone at Walmart cut from another kind of box! Good grief!

I asked DD for a 7 qt for Christmas so I could include a lot of vegetables. That big of a unit just throws the normal directions off. I use the 4 hours on high for the smaller units. It just doesn't work on the 7 qt, too much to heat up, I guess. The meat was tough. Next time I'll try the 8 hours on low before I give up.

I'm curious as to the appeal of a slow cooker. When I bought my Instant Pot pressure cooker I gave my slow cooker to Good Will.
