I have had a glass cooktop for over 20 years, the way to get rid of the stubborn brown spots is to scrape using a razor blade or a knife as recommended here. Dont be afraid that it will ruin it, it wont!!! When it first happened to me I called Frigidaire CS, and this is what they told me to do.

I have tried just about everything and every product that says it will clean glass cooktops without scratching, but no success. I have baked-on black crusty-looking rings around the burners.

I just saw nano erasers, but fear those will scratch the surface. Has anyone found something that really works to get rid of these black-backed on rings? Thanks.

Kenmore Cleansing Creme for Smooth Top Ranges will clean and polish. It makes your cooktop look like new. You may need to google it to find a source since Sears has closed most stores. The Sears Hometown Stores website may have it. I am being frugal with the two bottles I have just in case. Good luck!

I have had a glass top stove for over twenty years. The very best product I have ever found is called "The Pink Stuff" on Amazon. It is a pink paste that you rub in a circular motion to remove the grime and stains that you describe. Melts it away like magic. It comes in a small container, but does not take much to clean stovetop. I also use it to clean splatters on inside oven door glass. Use it on BarB Que grill. It shines my large stainless steel sink being careful to rub with the grain. There are soooo many ways to use The Pink Stuff for cleaning.

I've tried a variety of cleaners over the years and they've all been fine; most recently, I've been using either undiluted Bio Cleaner concentrate (the clay is good but can be annoying to fully rinse away) or a couple drops of Dawn Free & Clear dishsoap.

As for the cleaning "tool," I bought some Scotch-Brite scratch-free pads made specifically for glasstop stoves around Christmastime and have been using them ever since. You really can use them with just water, especially if you're mainly handling everyday spots and spills rather than heavy-duty ones—but I've used them with the above-mentioned cleaners as well, and that's a great combination. One side is a standard soft sponge and the other is textured and stiff to scrub away tougher spills, and it doesn't scratch the glass at all even with lots of pressure and repeated passes. They hold up nicely as well; I'm still on my second one after four months (and I'm a stickler for really clean, fresh sponges).

Cerama Bryte cooktop cleaner comes with a starter kit that includes the cleaner, a pad, and a razor blade/scraper. It works wonders. I buy a starter kit for our tenants, when new, and have bought for my mom and son when they got glass cook top stoves. Then I use a Puppy Fur (from QVC) to wipe it away and get a nice shine. The kit is available at home centers like Lowes and Home Depot.

I have used most of what everyone has used. The scraper with the razor blade does really well and I use it for the lightweight stuff. If I go a while and get the burnt-on ring - I grab the easy off and spray. Let it sit for about an hour. Usually, it will leave a film and I use window cleaner (Windex) to remove that. Looks brand new.
