Spice Organizing

Accessing my spices is a continual frustration as I have to unload half thebottles to find what I'm looking for. I've used the tiered shelves and they didn't last long. I'd always end up knocking something over when reaching to the tallest shelf in the back. Any suggestions? I'm looking at these but have mixed feelings. Opnions?

I bought a drawer insert and converted one of my drawers to a spice drawer. I bought those cutesy jars with the labels that you see all over Instagram and I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did. I absolutely love and adore it. Then then I put turntables in my cabinet with the spices that I don't use as often.

@spent2much the legs on the first set are a set length.

@JeanLouiseFinch : I have limited cabinet space plus the cabinets are narrow. This has been a very frustrating area for me. I had mixed feelings about this but this was on sale and I had extra 20 % coupon. It has been one of my better solutions. I watched YouTube videos for help. I tried to make it as secure and sturdy as possible but one area wobbles a bit and very careful when removing the spice jars. But I am able to store more spices My friend wanted this and I purchased it for her birthday. She has newer and bigger cabinets and really loves this.

I have a clear pocket 'shoe organizer' hung inside my pantry door that I use for spices/flavorings.

I bought 2 lazy susan's by Rubbermaid. And put all the spices in alphabetical order.

Have spent lots of time putting everything back in order through the years. A couple of months ago I spent part of the afternoon going through and throwing out old stuff and putting everyhting back in alphabetical order. It lasted a few days and there was dill spice in with the onion powder. And now I just gave up. If you want a spice you can hunt for it. I admit defeat.

I am going to look more into this. I have two round, two tier shelves I can turn. I have plenty of space, finally at 60 and I have my spices in alphabetical order. Works pretty well.

When I was much younger, I had a collection of silver president spoons on a wall rack. I also had a cleaning girl so I could be available to do all the travel and sporting events my husband wanted to do on weekends, as I worked out of the home all week. The girl was in high school and I had a list of the order of presidents inside my hutch, taped, so she could clean the spoons and get them in right order on the rack. I became the laughing stock of the neighborhood but was even better when my husband told the people I had the spices in ahalpbetical order. It worked for me.

I bought plastic containers with lids and dumped my most used spices into them. They stack and save so much room. This is the best system I have ever used.

@JeanLouiseFinch - I have my favorite ones in a wall cabinet that my mom gave me when I got married. I won't part with that.

My others are in the exact same shelf system you showed in the cabinet next to the stove. This fits the cabinet and it is easy to find the ones I need.

I like to cook when I have the time, and I like to use spices. I have a lot.

@JeanLouiseFinch I do what you do - unload half the bottles to find the ones i want. It's not fun but at least I'm not likely to forget what's in my collection. I have them on a lazy susan inside a kitchen cabinet - makes searches a little easier.

I have a spice drawer, it's tiered several rows or you can Google to see what they look like. Everything is visible! I also have 2 rotating round trays in a cabinet for larger & awkward size spices & rubs.

My spices & herbs are not in any neat, organized racks or holders. I keep them in their original containers arranged according to:

1) what I use the most - some on a partitioned turntable, some there in the cabinet next to the turntable - for a quick reach.

2) what I use primarily for the Sunday sauce - they have a separate cabinet space. (I use these in other dishes, too.)

3) what I don't reach for every day - they are on a plate that also acts like a turntable, but on the higher shelf, like my jar of peppercorns that are ready to be ground when my pepper runs out.

Once in a while, I am hunting something down. But I know where everything is. I do use a lot, because they are superfoods.

I purchased mini mason jars with lids (4 oz) on Amazon. They came with stickers for the lids.

Thanks for the input, everyone. Unfortunately I don't have drawer space available or I would have liked that option. I ended up ordering the Spicy Shelf (top pic) and am keeping my fingers crossed that it'll work. It's scheduled arrive sometime Sunday so I know what I'll be doing on Monday. 🤞

This is what I use for the few dry spices I use. I primarily cook w/ fresh herbs so my dry spices are probably less than 30. They fit nicely on the lazy susan and I can spin and find my spices. I've stopped buying large amounts of spice (except for kosher salt and pepper) because one of my daughter-inlaws made a big deal about spice getting old, yadda yadda. The Spice Shelf in the opening post is great if your jars all fit and there's no over-flow. I've collected far too many and all sizes, have purchased containers to make them easy to stack and accessible, have purchased drawers that pull out and hang down (love those), and several other means to keep them corralled and still I'm dissatisfied with how much space and spread out they are.

So -- Plan is to not replace what ages out unless it is a staple. No more fancy blends that seldom get used. No more various types of cinnamons, steak seasonings, sea food variations. Etc. Etc.

This goal will be on the Spring Cleaning list - going through them once again purging the old once and for all.
