Spanish, Mexican, South American--add a good thick spicy salsa to the mix! Taco seasoning is good too, and a little heat. Serve with rice or like a meatball sandwich on tortillas!

Check out a recipe for Klopsiki...Polish meatballs. My grandmother made them all the time and they were served in a sour cream/mushroom sauce. We didn't like them as kids because of the mushrooms and sour cream, but would eat them plain. As an adult attending traditional Polish/Russian family events, I found them kind of bland, but I'm sure seasonings can be adjusted. Enjoy!

@PilatesLover - This is one of my family's favorite recipes; it's great for a quick meal when paired with beans and/or rice (or even a green salad) or for party appetizers, and it's really simple:

Mexi-Meatballs

1 lb ground beef (not too lean or meatballs will be dry)
1/2 C finely shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Pepper Jack cheese
2 Tbsp taco seasoning
1/2 C red enchilada sauce, warmed (plus more for dipping, if desired)

Preheat oven to 400. Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly coat it with nonstick spray (or use parchment paper or a silicone liner). Place beef, cheese, and seasoning in a medium bowl and use your hands to mix until just combined—do not overwork the meat. Roll mixture into 24 balls measuring approximately 1.5" in diameter and place on the prepared baking sheet. (The balls do not need much space but should not be touching.) Bake for 8-10 minutes, until no longer pink inside.

Transfer meatballs to a medium bowl, add enchilada sauce, and gently toss to coat. Serve immediately from the bowl or transfer to a serving platter, spiking each ball with a toothpick, if desired.

(Note: I'm sure you could make the meatballs in an air fryer, but I've never tried.)

Is it all in the seasonings?

Sometimes I'll do meatballs w/ brown gravy, and a typical mix w/ ground round is: salt, pepper, apple pie spice, allspice, a clove or 2 of minced garlic, brown sugar, onion, celery; if I add any herb it would be basil and parsley. 1 egg and panko breadcrumbs. Maybe a touch of heavy cream to help bind.

I never brown meatballs anymore. They come out much more tender if you don't.

Heat baking dish; add EVOO & butter, maybe a little sherry, a jar of brown gravy and place in the meatballs.

Add finely chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg and mix. Add milk and season well with salt and pepper.

Shape mixture into small, round balls. Place on a clean plate, cover and store in the fridge for 2 hours (to help them hold their shape while cooking).

In a frying pan, heat oil on medium heat. When hot, gently add your meatballs and brown on all sides.

When browned, add to an ovenproof dish and cover. Place in a hot oven, 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 180 degrees Celsius, and cook for a further 30 minutes.

And for the cream sauce:

Melt the butter in a frying pan. Whisk in the plain flour and continue cooking, stirring continuously for 2 minutes.

Add the vegetable stock and beef stock and continue to stir. Add the thick double cream, soy sauce and Dijon mustard.

Bring to a simmer and allow the sauce to thicken. Continue to stir.

When ready to eat, serve with your favorite potatoes -- either creamy mash or mini new boiled potatoes.

Have been using this recipe for Sweet and Sour meatballs for decades. Never any leftovers. I use them mostly for appetizers, but served over rice makes a nice meal. It is straight from my old Betty Crocker cookbook.

20-25 small sized meatballs (1-1/2 inches)

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 TBSP cornstarch

1-13.5 oz can of pineapple chunks with juice

1/3 cup vinegar

1 TBSP soy sauce

1 green pepper, chopped

Cook meatballs in hot skillet, remove. Drain fat if there is any. Mix brown sugar and cornstarch in hot skillet. Stir in pineapple with juice, vinegar and soy sauce. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Add meatballs back to skillet making sure to coat all in sauce. Cover and simmer around 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Add green pepper chunks, cover and simmer for 5 minutes. Enjoy. Once cooked I put in a crock pot on low to keep warm.

When hot, gently add your meatballsand brown on all sides.
