Remember Coke Floats????

When I was a teenager, occasionally I could go to the little soda shop/restaurant that had amazing fried hamburgers and a little cup of wonderful potato salad. Their french fries were extremely delicious! The only other fries I had were at McDonalds.

I don't know where I got my first coke float, but I loved them!

When I was dating, the "thing" was a "cherry lemon 7 up" which I would often have after a movie date.

Did anyone else have the "cherry lemon 7up"?

we have a couple of old fashioned ice cream parlors at the beach that serve coke floats and other nostalgic ice cream treats. they make their sodas the old fashioned way....... mixing syrup and soda.with that chewy ice.

Yes, and going to A&W drive in for root beer floats. Times have changed, today I don't consume sodas or dairy. But I have fond memories of family treat times together.

My mother loved Coke floats. I liked cherry, lime Cokes. She took me to the drug store soda fountain every week after my piano lesson. Both drinks were made from pumps of syrup and mixed to order. Nothing came out of a premixed machine. It was our special secret.

@ECBG I have 3 of my grandsons for a couple of nights. I got ice cream so that they could make floats.

One had a Pepsi float, one had a root beer float, one had a milk shake.

I still get a Vanilla Coke when I go to Frisch's Big Boy.

We had an excellent corner diner that had saucy sloppy dressed cheeseburgers that were so good and unbeatable, along with hand cut fries and homemade shakes where you'd get a glass and the tall stainless canister the shake was mixed in. They had floats there too. We didn't eat out a lot so it was kind of a treat to go there.

@ECBG Sonics have great Cherry Limeade drinks. They are wildly popular in the summer. We used to send someone out from work at happy hour in the summer, sometimes he'd bring back 20 of them.

We love Coke floats and Root Beer floats. We make them occasionally.

What I really miss is root beer in those giant thick glass ice cold mugs! The root beer would freeze to the sides and the drink was so good and cold. The would come with a spoon sometimes to get the mushy frozen part.

@ECBG : Growing up- we had a store downtown. They made the best cherry cokes. Special treats at home included the root beer floates and 7 UP floats. My Uncle owened the neighborhood grocery store and he always gave me a really iced cold coke cola in the small glass bottle with peanuts. Precious memories.

DH gets root beer floats when we go to Dairy Queen. I haven't had Coke in about 5 years- I was a frequent Diet Coke drinker before- otherwise I would join him with a Coke float!

Growing up in the 60’s as a small child, we made sodas at home. Just coke, root beer or 7 up poured over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. When we went to our grandparents on vacation, they had the best root beer stand ever! Root beer in frozen beer mugs. We just got root beer no ice cream. It was DELICOUS on hot summer evenings. A great childhood memory.

Our our dad took us to a drugstore after church, and we always got a coke, at their soda fountain. I think it was just to give my mom an extra half hour of peace! Loved so many of our childhood memories with our dad.

And root beer floats too. My sister always made Pepsi floats. I just saw on line yesterday people are getting a iced coffee and a small ice cream at McDonald's and putting the cone in the iced coffee.

I loved coke floats and root beer floats, my daddy's favorite. Haven't had them in years since I started cutting back on sugar but I do try to have them once each summer for a treat. When we were younger and had a shopping day in a bigger city, we'd get treated to a lime freeze which was lime sherbet in ginger ale, haven't had one of those since I've grown up but the thought has my mouth watering. I love these posts helping me remember things of my youth!

My dad put peanuts in a coke once surprising me when I was a child. He rarely drank a coke, but I appreciate you bringing that memory back to him.

Rootbeer floats were our standard float but the Summer soda drink of choice was a Brighams Raspberry Lime Rickey.
