Well, we need carbohydrates. Breads & cookies aren't the only foods that have them. Look to the other food groups like nuts & beans. (Nuts are a great source of healthy fats, too!)

Also, you may want to do food combining -- eating carbs w/ vegetables and no fat, for example.

Suzanne Somers has a whole litany on food combining -

"recommends eating whole grain carbs like whole wheat pasta and whole wheat bread because they have more fiber. A typical menu for Sommers may include: Breakfast: Fruit, and later toast or cereal"

Y'all are always so smart so am asking this question here. I have a definite carb craving since Christmas. All throughout the season, I've carefully watched what I was eating. I've been trying to lose some stubborn pounds, for health reasons, since mid-year. Since Christmas Day, I've craved bread, rice, potatoes, grits. My tummy seems to be very unhappy and my brain is telling me that's the only cure. I didn't even eat Christmas cookies this year! How to retrain a settle-aged brain?

I stay away from as many processed foods as possible since those just make me crave more.

Also, I've found for myself certain carbs are trigger foods--bread is one of the worst for me--that induce more carb cravings.

Plain beans/legumes work the best to give me enough carbohydrates without sparking any cravings.

You have to find out yourself through trial and error what works for you.

Carb cravings are the worse. The more junk sugar carbs you eat, the more you will crave them. You seem to be craving white carbs.

Quit eating the junk carbs cold turkey and stop buying anything you know you can't resist. It is easier to say no in the grocery store than it is if it is in your pantry.

In a few days, your cravings will stop. I always have flavored tea bags on hand. I find it to be a good choice to satisfy my sweet tooth and carbs cravings.

Also substitute those white carbs with better options...like whole grain cereals. breads and brown rice.

You can try Chromium. It's a naturally occuring mineral.

200mcg to start, once a day. You can get it in a veggie cap at GNC for less than $10. Stay away from hard tablets. They often contain talc.

I used it successfully when I began to low carb and now only take it when cravings hit.
