electric percolator cleaning

anyone own an electric percolator?

of course i cannot put it in the dishwasher, so i was wondering what the best way is to do a "deep clean" on it. do you do or use anything special?

There are products just for that purpose. Look on the grocery shelf near the coffee, or on Amazon

I used to only drink percolator coffee. There is a product called "Dip it" that was made for percolators and it made it look brand new every time!

@sunshine45 My vote is for Dip-It, too. I read or saw on You Tube, someone suggested baking soda. Check YT for yourself. I did try that method, but was not impressed. Dip-It works.

I went back to using my electric & stove-top percolators. I still have 2 boxes of Dip-It. It does a great job of cleaning my Faberware electric pot. I don't think it's made anymore. Kaf--tan & Brew Rite get good reviews on Amazon. They're both powders which is what I prefer for these percolators. Hope this helps you!

@luvsopals I wasn't sure either. When in doubt, go to the Internet or Amazon. It appears under the Lime Away line now. But I didn't see it for percolators, just drip pots like Mr. Coffee and single serves like Keurig. Maybe it would be ok to use anyway? Or maybe something like C.L.R.? 🤷‍♀️

If I couldn't get a product made specifically for percolators, I'd just run some vinegar through it. I don't think I'd want to run the residue of CLR through my system.

i did do a little browsing on amazon for the dip it. it is now under the "lime away" brand. my main concern is that when i read the information about it, i have not found one that mentions specifically being for a percolator. has anyone used this "dip it lime away" for an electric percolator?

i really appreciate all of the recommendations and suggestions.

I have a percolator and I put baking soda in the basket and run it thru a cycle. You will find that there is an oily residue after doing this that you can simply wipe away with a paper towel.

Baking soda works!

@sunshine45 After posting post #4, I did a little Google searching and someone suggested using a dishwashing tablet or the powder form to clean electric coffee pots, I just tried it on my Farberware and it works pretty well. My post wasn't that dirty and there are still some stains in it, but I had the cleaner in the house. It seems like the parts of the pot that were cover with water cleaned very good. For instance, above the water line spots remained. But do try this method before you go nuts looking for the "right" cleaner and spend more than you want. Let us know how you make out.

Just use white vinegar. You can fill the pot with water and vinegar and let it sit about 30 minutes, or you can perk the water and vinegar and then rinse well. No need for using a cleaner with more chemicals.

Love our electric perc. Clean 1x month with 1/2 cup liquid dishwasher deterg, full of water, cook, wipe; 2 cycles just water.

i love mine also @birdQ13 !

it was my favorite christmas gift from about two years ago i think.

never liked keurig and was anxious to try something other than my mr coffee. a percolator makes a world of difference in taste.

thank you all so much for the great suggestions. i have not tried any out yet because i was so busy during the holidays. now that life will get back to normal, i am going to begin trying some of these.

I have a stovetop percolator but still don't put it in the dishwasher because it has wood on the handle. Every so often I give it a good scrubbing with a brillo pad and baking soda. I also run vinegar through it once in a while.
