Do You know This Dessert?

There is a dessert from years ago that I saw a few times.

A piped round meringue shell (about the size of a tea cup) which has been baked and filled with what looked like a mixture of fruit and possibly whipped cream?

Can anyone tell me what this was please?

In high school, we got off of the bus at a bakery and I love to see the creativity in the cases. Occasionally, we would munch on something on the way home.

That sounds like a Pavlova to me. I have made them filled with strawberries.

Hello @ECBG ! I just read a recipe for something that sounds just like this in my Taste of Home magazine this morning.

Try a Google search for Taste of Home Swiss Meringue Shells and see if this is close....

This is an EXACT match! many thanks! I think their filling was sweetened whipped cream with something, and fruit which kind of reminded me of the filling for a Millionaire pie.

I bet those meringues would be fun to make if you weren't in a hurry. You could get very creative with the filling. How about a refrigerated type of cheesecake filling with fruit on it?

@Kachina624 Not in a hurry is right. I bake the shells for almost an hour on low heat, turn off the oven, then let them cool in the oven with the door half-open for 1 1/2 hours.

I did try googling millionaire cakes and none looked like that one.

@Queen of shop It's not a cake; it's a pie. IMO the best recipe is from the Furr's Cafeteria chain. It's to die for. The recipe is available on Google. My favorite dessert ever.

It's such a pretty looking pie. Not going to make it now. I think it will be nice in the hot summer.

Somehow, I found a recipe for Pink Lemonade Pie that looks great for summer too. I know summer is a way bit off but I'm an optimist. LOL. I'll be ready.

I just saw you wanted the recipe. You can make the pie with halved red grapes, strawberries, pineapple, whatever you like that is a softer fruit.

The pie I pictured has a layer of real whipped cream on top which I don't do.

Millionaire Pie

1 can crushed pineapple well drained

1 small can well drained mandarin orange, cut in half

½ C of green grapes cut in half

½ C chopped pecans

6 drained cherries with stems, or extra chopped pecans to garnish.

(One fruit may be replaced with grated coconut of the same measurement).

Juice of 1 fresh lemon

1 can sweetened condensed milk like Eaglebrand.

1 8oz cool whip, thawed.

In large bowl mix lemon juice with sweetened condensed milk.

Mix in pineapple, mandarin oranges, and chopped pecans.

Gently fold in thawed cool whip.

Pour into graham cracker crust.

Cover. Chill for at least 5-6 hours.

Garnish with drained long stem cherries before serving.
