Somehow in the past year, I have ended up with two gravy boats. One with an attached base and one that has a separate tray. While I understand the utility of the attached base, they just seem unwieldy to me and I think I prefer the two separate pieces (usually with a small ladle alongside). Which one do you prefer?

I have been gathering serving dishes for the big feast tomorrow and am taking a break...

I agree with the separated one. Your right the attached base one could be an accident waiting to happen. Happy Thanksgiving 🦃🍽🍁

For use on the table, I would use the one that is not attached. I make it even easier by leaving the gravy, and food, in the pot!

I am a huge fan of the ones with the attached base. It won't tip over, it catches drips and washes in one fell swoop in the dish washer. And you never have to look for the other piece.

Mine are used more for salad dressing and bbq sauce than gravy. I have several of them.

Since we are usually informal, in past years I just put the gravy in a large cream pitcher (for lack of a better description) set in a bowl to catch drips. Maybe I will have my husband hold the two gravy boats behind his back and do a random pick (to go with my random survey). Interesting responses from people and I have a few ideas for future entertaining. I seem to be party central for my family and most years there are just 8 of us (but we have had as many as 30 back in the day). Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I have the gravy boat with attached base that goes with the set of china for 12 that my mom bought in the early 50's. It's called Fuji Garland & i don't recall her ever using the gravy boat. I lugged the whole set when I moved states 16 years ago & I've never used it at all since she passed in 1997 & it hadn't been used for some years before that. It's really pretty, but I should donate it.

I also vote for the attached base on the gravy boat.

The very first meal that I had after we got our formal dining room set, I had a rude awaking. Two chairs were stained (never got the stains out and I tried and tried) with gravy. So anything that helps keep gravy off the upholstery gets my vote.
