Dukes Mayonaise

All: I am very disappointed with a brand of mayonaise called "Dukes". David Venable recommended this brand highly as apparently it is mainly sold south of the Mason Dixon Line. When I saw it as a weekly special in my NY supermarket I was delighted. When I tasted it.... Sour !! Nothing at all like the wonderful Hellmans mayonaise. The Dukes mayonaise had a vinegar like tartness to it. Had to discard the mayonaise and will be back to Hellmans. Very disappointed in David recommending this brand.

We like Dukes, we find it here in MD at Walmart, but we find we like Hellmanns better. I only buy light Mayo.

Never heard of it here on the West Coast. Our family has never used anything but Best Foods, which I believe the WC brand of Hellman's.

Southerners are dedicated to Duke's. To me it tasts like the Cain's mayonnaise we had in New England.

I buy both and depending on how I'm using it. Sometimes Dukes but mostly Hellmans. Dukes gives plain egg salad a bit of a kick. Good to have choices. I've had friends rave about a food product and I've hated it. We all have different taste buds.

I'm about as southern as they come but I do not care for Duke's mayonnaise. Hellmann's is the only thing I will use. Love it!

As a born & raised southern girl (GA) Blue Plate is a preferred brand to Dukes in the south among everyone I know, no matter what David says.

No vinegar taste like Duke's has.

I ended up trying Dukes as it was recommended by a friend and felt the same way as you did. Way too tangy for me but I am glad I gave it a try.

I disagree, most Southerners I know, myself and all my friends and family, only buy Blue Plate, not Dukes.

I actually mix them, 1:1 ratio and to me, tastes great.

I view Duke's more like a Miracle Whip with that slight bit of tang.

My home made tartar sauce tastes great with them mixed and I also use the mix in my potato salad.

Try that before you toss it, you may like it.

I don't think I've met a mayo I don't like. I usually buy Wegmans brand but if I have a coupon for a "premium" brand and it's comparable in price, I'll buy it.

Dukes, Blue Plate, Hellmans - all tasty in my book. Wegmans is priced well and does the job just fine.

One exception: I really prefer full fat mayo - not a fan of the "light" versions.

I'm pretty easy.....I buy either Hellman's or Kraft, whichever is on sale at the time.

Hellman's is the #1 selling Mayo in the US.

I buy Hellman's and Dukes. I like them both depending on my recipe and mood. Why does it have to be one or the other?

Born & raised in SC and am a Dukes girl all the way. When I lived in NJ & NY, I bought Hellman's only because Dukes wasn't available. I don't know about everybody but all my friends are Dukes fans.

Wow, where I moved to in S.C. they are so dedicated to Duke's I've been stopped in the grocery store and questioned on my choice of purchasing another brand.

i purchase both hellmanns and dukes and like them no almost equally. we used to be a hellmanns only family.

the only thing i refuse to purchase is miracle whip!

Raised in the Midwest on Hellmans. Moved to Texas and found Duke's. Pry it from my cold dead hands.
