RIP Ron Popeil

I was sad to hear that Ron Popeil passed away today at the age of 86. It seems like just yesterday that he was on QVC selling his Showtime Rotisserie. May he Rest In Peace. 🙏🏻

His family reported that he had a medical emergency on Tuesday and was brought to the hospital where he passed away today.

Just read about it. Very sad. He was the "pitchman" before there were "pitchmen". Remember watching his Infomercials. Irreplacable.

That's a shame. I'm on my second Ron Popeil rotisserie in about 20 years. I just told DH, who said we'll have to roast a chicken in his honor. I usually buy an 8 pound oven stuffer and it comes out perfect every time.

I'm always surprised at how many times I've used the rotisserie, it makes a great turkey breast. Mr. Popeil was quite a salesman.

Yes, I still have my original rotisserie of his. My Husband bought a larger one from a thrift store. We love the crispy rotisserie chicken this oven produces. I make a variety of marinades .

My dad bought my mom a Ronco Chop-O-Matic, in I think the 60's. He thought he'd gotten her the best thing since sliced bread, but she wasn't too impressed with it! lol

RIP Ron. I purchased several of his products over the years. I read that he sold his Ronco company in 2008 for over $50 million dollars. What a go-getter!

He sold the company in 2005 for 60 million dollars.

I still use my Showtime Rotisserie. I have a chicken defrosting right now to cook in it. I will do so in his honor. I still have the cassette tape that came with it when I purchased it from QVC many moons ago.

He was certainly the calming showman--no yelling, no arm waving, no nonsense, just good information and demonstrations from a nice man that I trusted. And my trust was justified as the oven still works as good as the first time I used it. RIP, Mr. Popeil.

That's sad. I will think of him everytime I look at the tiny in-line holes in my kitchen flooring where I dropped the rotisserie wheel from his oven, or for the next few months until the new flooring gets laid. RIP, RP.

We have the EZ Store Rotisserie. Bought it when it was on sale for about $90 at Home Depot. Now it's about $167.

It makes the best prime rib. YUM!!!

I remember my Dad brining home a "Veg-O -Matic" in the '60's!! I loved it because he would make us fresh french fries with it! (It slices! it dices!)

I LOVED my Ronco Pasta Maker, the Food Dehydrator and my Showtime Rotisserie, all of which I still have, and still work-

He was so clever- a brilliant inventor as well as pitchman- His pocket fisherman is still widely used, and that hair spray with the fibers for bald spots, well, as odd as it seemed at the time, is still pretty much the industry standard for hair "thickeners"- His Mr Microphone though the source of many parodies and was also a best seller..

I know none of us will live forever, nor do we want to, but there is something very sad to me about losing this icon..The way he fused sales and television was groundbreaking...he was someone that "came into my home", and my consciousness, in a way that no one else had done when I was a kid...and I was always comforted to see him as an adult....

RIP Ron- You set the bar for all to follow- heck because of you, there ARE TV shopping networks!!!!
