There is a clever children's book called Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parrish about this exact thing. If you get a chance it would be a funny prank to check out a copy from the library for him to read.

I always read it to my class on the first day of school and had a discussion about misunderstandings.

As you may recall, I am not supposed to carry anything with weight.

We have two large clothes hampers. He packs his then, asks if I have washed his items.

My question "Did you bring them down stairs????", "No.".

my DH will wash dishes (Thank You very much!)

but will make a new stack in the cabinets rather than add to a stack plainly in view, that has been there a million years, that he took the item from no yet
