@ECBG I have always used Sparkle window cleaner with paper towel. It never leaves streaks. It makes all my appliances "sparkle." lol

@ECBG : My black refrigerator has the textured surface. I use a microfiber cloth with windex . The black cook top- microfiber cloth and the new dawn spray clean.

It is so dusty where I live that I'm careful to never buy a black anything. It shows dirt more than any other color. I wish they'd come out with something other than a TV with a black screen. It's my nemesis.

I don't have a black fridge. Mine is stainless but many years ago I can remember when we purchased our range. It's also stainless but the cooktop is black. I can remember the salesman telling me just how bad stainless is regarding prints & smudges. He failed to tell me how bad black can be as well!

What I do after cleaning my cooktop with soap & water to get those last filmy smudges is to hit a paper towel with some Orange Glo (it's supposed to be wood polish & cleaner) and give it a once over. The stuff is amazing! It leaves no residue and cleans the black surface to a nice shine!

@ECBG Windex type glass cleaner with a Handi-wipe takes care of mine. The rental I live in now is the first time I've encountered a black finish refrigerator.

I like that it doesn't show outside drips or spills as much. Bad side of the deal is that I have to remind myself to wipe it down! On a white or stainless steel aappliance I see the dirt immediately and clean it right away.

My last refrigerator was the all-black type with the texture. I didn't have trouble with cleaning that one.

My newer one is the 'black stainless' but that's just the doors. The rest of the unit is that regular textured black. The only thing I didn't love at first about the black stainless was that I couldn't use any of my magnets on the doors. But I have about half of one side exposed where I can use them so it's been ok.

Anyway (sorry about leaving the point), I haven't had problems with cleaning either type, so I don't know an answer. I would use either a towel or paper towel with water or some basic cleaning spray (I have GSE and OXO on hand, as well as just regular dish soap).

One thing I like about the new one is that it doesn't have handles that stick out, but there are these areas on the top of refrigerator and bottom of freezer doors (freezer on top), so I don't have to touch the outside at all. I seldom see marks on the outside, so I guess that's fortunate.

I would think that a microfiber cloth would be a great choice, whether or not it's a pain to clean. Those seem to be magical. Either that or the Mr Clean Magic Erasers. Those things will clean anything!

I use a damp paper towel. All cleaners I have tried just leaves a dull cloudy residue.

I typically just use a standard cloth (I can't stand the feel of microfiber) and water, or if the surfaces become especially dirty or greasy, I spray with a bit of BioClean first. The fridge is fairly old, so we were worried about that black shiny finish lasting when we moved in seven years ago, but it still looks great and fingerprints honestly haven't been much of an issue.

OMG---moved into an apartment in March where the kitchen had black and stainless appliances and what a mess to keep them looking decent---will NEVER have those in my kitchen when i get my new house---

I used to use Clorox wipes for all kitchen cleaning. No sponges for me. Since I can't find any Clorox I now use Windex with paper towels. With all the kwap magneted on there one doesn't see much of the black textured surface.

I have smooth black surfaces on my appliances. I use microfiber fluffy cloth with a spray I made up of vinegar, water and a drop of Dawn.

@haddon9 I understand the Orange Glo is not used in excess on your stove top but I would be concerned once I heated one of the burners the product would have to burn off, and not in a good way.

I have Orange Glo, never thought of it for the stove top.

I'm desperate for something that cleans and does not streak on my black glass top stove.

@Mom2Dogs I thought the same thing at first but there really is no residue. I can't remember what prompted me to do this at first but I think I was so annoyed with the smudgy black stove top that I was thrilled when I tried this out. You can try it on an area away from the burner and see what you think.

ETA: A very little bit goes a long way.
