I have a CE stainless set that is about 10+ years old. The inside is starting to flake off my saucepans (the black stuff). Need recommendations, having trouble choosing something.....I prefer to have more pots than frying pans, only need 1 or 2 of those. Only me and 2 kids in my house, so I don't cook for an army. Prefer $100-$150 range. TIA

When I got my kitchen done, I got rid of my Farberware and got the Todd English Greenpan set. It is just okay. I have a Wolfgang Puck stainless covered fry pan which I love. I have a Rachel Ray pan that I really like.

Maybe when Rachel has a TSV you can see if you would like it, if you like non-stick.

I would ditch the flaking ones ASAP since that stuff is not good for you, as I am sure you know. If you burn a coated pan, it can really harm your pets, especially birds from what I understand.

Look for pans that are BPA free. Good luck!

I absolutely love my circulon pots and pans. I bought this set for my son also and he loves them too. It's $170 on sale. They are far superior to the CE stainless steel set that I got from QVC.

http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/circulon-espree-13-piece-cookware-set?ID=798448&CategoryID=7552&LinkType=#fn=BRAND%3DCirculon%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D51%26ruleId%3D27%26slotId%3D5

I have a Wolfgang Puck set of stainless that I bought at Sams Club around 6 years ago. They cook great and clean up great. I have added stainless All Clad pans which I purchased separately at the All Clad factory sale and I love them too. I would look for an all stainless set, as those are the most healthy to use.

My daughter in law needs a new set of pans too. She purchased a Martha Stewart hard anodized set at Macys around Christmas and my son was able to talk her into returning them. Alzheimers runs in her family and hard anodized pans are made from aluminum, a compound that is associated with Alzmeimers disease. My daughter in law now wants non stick, which is also very unhealthy to cook in. She thinks that stainless is hard to clean and nothing could be farther from the truth. Stainless pans are very easy to use and take care of-they are workhorses.

I would recommend an all stainless set with triple bottoms. The Wolfgang Puck set was around $100- a real bargain. Giada De Laurentis has a professional series of stainless pans at Target that are around $200- Target has a cartwheel coupon now for 40% off that price, making them a real steal.

air728, I bought the Rachael Ray 10-piece Hard Anodized Dishwasher Safe Cookware Set (K38334) when it was the TSV a year or two ago. It has 2 frying pans and the rest are pots, so perhaps that would fit your needs (I use the pots more than the pans, too). I really like this RR cookware set as it's so non-stick and easy to clean, and has held up very well.

I also have a stainless set from Wolfgang Puck (got from HSN) which is excellent too, it's just harder to clean as it's not non-stick.

I've had the Greenpan but over time it did not stay the same non-stick as when I first got it. Ended up throwing this out.

I have had MANY pots and pans in my life and the RR ones are my favorite.

My picture in the above post was dancing all around and wouldn't let me type more info. I wanted to add they are about 189. Mine are older and were made in Italy. The newer ones are made overseas, but they still get five stars. Thousands and thousands of 5 star ratings. They are heavy duty, clean well, and each is the perfect size. I highly recommend them! They will last the rest of your life. Racheal Ray and many of the celebrity chef cooks pots and pans are not forever pans IMO. They are good for several years, people who have owned them have said. But who knows.

Stainless takes a while to learn to cook in. At least it took me a while. Once I got the hang of it, I can even cook fried eggs in them and have them not stick!

I will never buy CE pots/pans no matter how much they try to tell us it won't peel or flake. I bought the colored set either last year or the year before and one of my small pots that I use to make gravies is peeling from whisking. Same goes for Todd English pans from HSN; what a joke! The first couple of times I cooked with his pans were fine. Then one day I tried to scramble eggs and boy was that a mess to clean; stuck like glue!!

I have Wolfgang's stainless set and I love it although I still need non stick for certain foods such as eggs and fish. I have a set of Emeril's from years ago that I really like too. I baby it though and NEVER use metal in it and threaten any in my family if they use metal.

I also have some cast iron pieces, 2 skillets, a square "beer in the rear" style from Emeril that I am using more often. I love the way cast iron cooks meat! The sear is like nothing else. The more I use my cast iron, the more non stick it becomes.

I agree with Shoekitty's recommendation for Kirkland 18/10 stainless from Costco.

My set is at least 7 years old, and I love it. Many people do not like sets, but this set is such a great price, and I find I use all the pieces. I do have two pre-seasoned Lodge round griddle pans (10 1/2 inch) for pancakes, crepes, sometimes eggs. But, I also cook eggs in the 8-inch stainless pan, and it does a great job.

I've been eyeing the Blue Jean Chef set of pants - non-stick with silicone handles & lid tops. I like them because of the rounded shape in the bottoms. They look like you would really be able to dish out the contents without having to go into a crease in the interior to do so. (Hope that makes sense.) Haven't ordered yet, and they may be getting low in stock, but I really like the look of that set.

Rachel Ray's oblong set also seems to have some definite advantages.
